Need Honeymoon Ideas (Updated)

My sister is getting married in May. They will be honeymooning in June, but do not know where to go. They were originally thinking about a cruise, but they are pretty big drinkers and would have a large bill racked up by the end of the trip for alcohol. I suggested they look into all-inclusive resorts.

Their budget is $4,000 including airfare.

They have both been to Cancun and would like to go somewhere different.

She also says that Hawaii is too far away. :loco:

Any recommendations or suggestions that I could pass along?

*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

EDIT -- Adding Additional Info:

They'd like to go to a beach resort with a lot of entertainment on-site.

They'd prefer to stay on the resort and not have to venture out.

They are not interested in sight-seeing.

Pheeeewww, I thought you were off the market. Just kidding! ;)

motordavid 11-01-2008 08:32 PM

Mich,
How old is Sis & Hub to be?
Interests in addition to drinking?

I love HI, but it is a looonggg trip,
both ways, for RightCoast people.

trueX5er 11-01-2008 08:35 PM

realchef 11-01-2008 08:52 PM

They'll both be 26.

A friend of hers mentioned the Atlantis in the Bahamas. :dunno:

cmyX6go 11-01-2008 09:01 PM

Atlantis will cost them a small fortune

bozo 11-01-2008 09:02 PM

There's nothing prettier than Britain in the summer! And if they're boozers, they might not want to come back...:guinness: :drunk:  I would recommend Dublin, but London would cut the cost considerably...

Edit: A beach resort?! At 26?! There'll be plenty of time for that stuff when they're old like me! Kids....

realchef 11-01-2008 09:12 PM

What about Napa?
There has to ba cool little B-B on the beach near the Napa Valley.
Just a suggestion.

Zee-Man 11-01-2008 09:38 PM

do they want to go outside US, or will they consider anywhere in US? I would recomand Maldives, beautiful country, if they go on www.bookings.com they will find great deals, or try to contact your local travel agent. I also recommand Asheville, NC if they like mountains, The grove park inn resort and spa will be great fit www.groveparkinn.com

If they like Europe my personal favorite is Switzerland any where around lake geneva area, Montreux will be a good choice, www.montreux.ch

they can also buy the euro pass for train and go anywhere for free as long as they want.

if I think of any other ideas I will be glad to share.

I found Asian market to be cheap, you get bigger bang for your buck....Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonasia they all are good. Look at www.starwoodhotels.com for deals.

Quicksilver 11-01-2008 09:50 PM

I just saw an ad on TV for Sandels 50% off 10 minutes ago.

realchef 11-02-2008 03:17 PM

Alright, seriously now. :huddle
26, Drinking and Beach?? hmm... 2 options::genius:
USA=South Beach!! Especially this time of year, weather is good.
:boogie: :band:
Europe=GREECE. OMfG!! Went there with friends once. Flew out of London and remember arriving then heading out to the bars/beach. Woke up 3 days later in a strange girls apartment back in London wearing someone else's clothes. Now what more could they want in a place to honeymoon!!!
:plane: :tgif:

Meiac09 11-02-2008 03:34 PM

Europe might make sense with the way the $/€ exchange is going...

Beach in Napa? Great Wine but no beach...Napa is inland and over an hour to any beaches unless you are talking San Pablo Bay in the in San Francisco Bay which I don't recommend.

Again...Lot's to drink though if they like Vino!

:dunno:

lakai 11-02-2008 04:15 PM

Atlantis or Cabo San Lucas

martinbaltes 11-02-2008 04:18 PM

suggest having them go to the nearest AA meeting.

Quicksilver 11-02-2008 06:00 PM

Maybe you're referring to Mendocino Ca which in not
far from Napa and has some B&B's on the beach.

Remember though, the beach in that area is
not for swimming without a wetsuit. It is cold cold cold.

Europe=GREECE.

Actually, for 26 year olds that want beaches and drinking, Ibiza (or Majorca) would fit. Easy to get to from the right hand side of the US. Euro is headed the right way as well, as Meiac suggests.

I wasn't thinking of anything particular. :dunno: There just has to be a place between the two like Mendocino. Either a little more Beachy or a little more Napa-y. Only been through there once and that whole area was just gorgeous. One thing a-plenty 'round there is good wine. :D

The AA meetings are probably the most sound advice.

Ibiza? They want a honeymoon, not a divorce...:drunk: ;pervert;

 I was just thinking of a warm sunny beach full of heavy-drinking 26 year olds. What they do while they are there is up to them.....

Majorca is a little more tame, or civilized, depending on your perspective.

Just funning yah...This is my stomping ground. Plenty of GREAT places to spend a Honeymoon in the Napa, Sonoma, Mendocino area. As Quick said...The ocean is a constant 52 degrees year round. Swim at your own risk.

They are now leaning toward one of the Sandals resorts. One of their friends mentioned the one in St. Lucia. Has anyone ever been there?

LeMansX5 11-09-2008 12:52 AM

I have heard good things about St. Lucia from someone who went there for honeymoon. They were highly recommending, specially for honeymoon.

Atlantis ! it was a blast there. Beautiful. I will go there again. There are different level on the rooms. Should be very affordable. They have specials sometimes. check them out.

Scottie 11-09-2008 05:04 AM

sounds like Faliraki Rhodes is the place for them.

I was actually going to mention one of the Sandals resorts. Sounds like it would meet your sister's wishes. They would not have to leave the resort at all, if they don't want. I've been to St. Lucia. It's a beautiful island! I highly recommend it. Great choice.

Juan

Thanks, everyone! I'll pass this along to her.

GUINNESS 11-10-2008 10:57 AM

Hawaii, too far???? Now Tahiti, yeah, maybe that's too far, but Hawaii is only 10 hours. Easily broken up if you fly into someplace like STL.

And I hope they're not getting married on May 30

I agree...Hawaii is not too far. Especially if you stop over in LA for the day or something.

They are getting married on May 23rd. LOL Thanks for the head's up! May 30th is now marked on my calendar.

mrkbbd 11-10-2008 11:34 AM

Have you ever heard of Sea Island? It's a resort off the coast of GA and they have this honeymoon thing where if you go there on your honeymoon, it is the same price every time you go on your anniversary in the subsequent years, so if you wanted to go 20 years later, it's the same price as it is today (www.seaisland.com), a lot of my friends go there and absolutely love it, golfing everyday, spa, horseback riding, etc

X509 11-10-2008 01:46 PM

I would say HI, but since they are more interested of being entertained on location a large resort somewhere else might be better.

I stayed on the island of Kauai last year for my honeymoon, which took place at the end of May. Great time to go, we had miles of empy beach to ourselves, perfect weather, and the beach/ocean were amazing.

And when I say empty beach, I mean EMPTY. Could look in both directions and maybe see a total of 5 other people.

Michelle 02-09-2009 09:47 AM

UPDATE:

They FINALLY decided on their honeymoon destination.

They will be going to Excellence Playa Mujeres in Mexico.

They were almost 100% sold on the Riu in Aruba, but heard and read a lot about recent robberies at the resort. Scary stuff!

Thank you all for your input and suggestions!
