iphone as a phone...
Lots of threads on the iphone. No one really says anything about it as a phone. I will be getting an 8g today. How good is it as just a cell phone??

I find it to have very good sound quality. No complaints here.

I have 2 friends with iphones and the reception in my area (provided by AT&T) is garbage. I laugh at them all the time about how bad it really is. In fact we were laughing yesterday about how they were talking to each other earlier in the day and the call got dropped.
I realize that this is most likely a service issue and not the phone, but you really need to find out how good the service provider is in the area you will be using your iPhone. When my friend purchased the iPhone he went from Verizon to AT&T and his reception went downhill bigtime. |
iPhone is fantastic as a phone. Many people have claimed that the latest OS update v2.2 has improved connections (they have less dropped connections) and voice mail quality.
I find it better than any of my previous cell phones in the same southern CT area. I don't know if AT&T has made improvements in this area (I don't think they have) but my cell phone reception is much better than what I've had with Nokia, Blackberry,and Motorola phones before -- those were with AT&T too. I wouldn't look at any other phone right now except Google's G1. I would still classify that as a "beta" phone though. Apple's great in that they come out with new versions of the iPhone firmware that improves it as a phone and internet device every two months or so. |
Its decent, my biggest gripe is that I could walk from the bunker I go to class in to directly under a tower, and it still won't pick up a damn signal. Restarting is getting old, but I'm going to swap it out when I am in Florida at an Apple Store. (WTF, closest one is ATL or Charlotte)

Got the phone. Lost so far, but working on it. Thx for the input to all.:thumbup:

Have fun with it, Mike.
I'll add my "I'll never get an iPhone until it's offered on Verizon" comment again. Can't get reliable reception from AT&T in my neighborhood :rolleyes: |
hmmm:huddle
Phone = :high5: AT&T = :slap: |
I've had the first generation and now the 3G and I've had a LOT of dropped calls. I know it is on my end because it happens with the other caller being on a land line or a cell phone. I hope the 2.2 update addresses this issue because I love the phone otherwise. I know it is not AT&T because I get great signal in my area and my other phones did not have this issue.
The applications are endless and cheap many I've downloaded are for my son who is 2 years old. He loves Dad's iPhone. |
Had it since last year and no complaints.
