Out of curiosity, anyone else using the IPHONE with a different provider in the US? I've had mine for over a month now and love it. Bonus I didn't have to be ripped off by ATT....

Do you know where I can buy an iphone 3G without a subscription ? The prices at ebay are too expensive... I need the unit only.

craigslist is one. will it work with t-mobile?

if you want to buy it locally craigslist is your best bet. And yes it works well with Tmobile u just need to use a sim adapter running 2.1 or below. My wife and I are with Tmobile, she has the 1st generation I have the 3G
And couldn't be happier.

Make sure you don't update to 2.2 Firmware. Also beware of the ones on Craigs b/c most of those are 2.2 and CANNOT be unlocked!

Using the live cashback is a great option on ebay but it's currently only 8 percent.

2G can be upgraded to 2.2 with no issues.

Cannot be unlocked YET, I'm sure they'll come out with a SIM adapter pretty soon while the Dev team is working on a soft unlock 4 the 3G.

What's the benefit of hacking the iPhone?
Is it just to use it with T-Mobile?

No not Tmobile only you can. Pretty much use it with any gsm provider around the world. Let's say you were going to Europe or Mexico today, instead being stuck with expensive roaming charges, u would just buy a local sim card to use with the Iphone, that's really the key benefit.

I figured that. Just wondered if there was some additional benefit.
