well, that is a different story altogether. your folks should go visit the teacher - not you.

my daughter (sophomore) was having a similar, but a little different problem, and a visit to the teacher by me seems to have cleared things up.

there is no excuse for a high school teacher to be dumping on you, or pushing their views on you. unfortunately, that happens all the time.

i would take a whole different approach, which begins with a joint visit of you, parent, guidance counselor, and teacher (at least down here, the guidance counselor is the one involved - it's not just the teacher). if that doesn't resolve it, then it escalates to principal, and school board beyond that, if need be.

it is definitely worth follow-up. at that age, there is no room for pushing your own agenda on your class.

Actually I disagree. You may be a very balanced individual at your age, however I have yet to meet a teenager that has the wisdom and perspective of an adult. We have all been (myself included) guilty of believing we have maturity, intelligence and a greater undertanding of a given problem than the adult that is trying to teach us, hence the oft repeated refrain by younger people "you don't undertand how hard it is for us"

It is reality however that we often do not. I submit that the teacher has paid you respect by asking your opinion of subjects that you are plainly familiar. He is not obliged to agree or otherwise with your point of view. Some teachers are good at considering other peoples points of view, some are not. That is the same out in the wider community.

Why on earth are you talking legal action on the one hand, and proclaiming your 'balanced' point of view on the other? I suggest that your age and therefore your ego are in action here and that in time you will see it for just the philosophical difference that it really is.....

Cheers

John

PS. As an aside, I once sat down with some very good friends who are South African/Russian Jews and sought their opinion on why they thought they were 'victimised and persecuted' when they lived in a free country such as Australia from a very young age. Each and every one of them was vehement in their belief and conviction about the holocaust etc as the reason for their persecution. None of them could understand that even though they had led a life of relative peace and prosperity their belief structure was indoctrinated by their religion and family. It was an illuminating chat and revealed that their 'knowledge' of their persecution was biased.......

You are mature for a high school senior!!

My advice would be to let it go and that by itself is a good lesson for the future. If it really bothers you, I would get your parents involved.
Law suit threat… not a good idea!

As to the point of being debated (Palestinian-Israeli conflict), I have a different opinion as you would imagine. I too lost family members to it, I find it rare to meet any one from either side who didn’t.

Rather than talking about who did what and when, who is right and who is wrong, I think we can all agree to the following: Israelis, Palestinians and all human beings have the right to exist in peace.

Extremists on both sides tend to link a political conflict into an existence/eradication discussion. We lived together for thousands of years in peace… what is so different about coexisting these days…. The difference IMHO is that we have politically bankrupt politicians.
I don’t care what you call it … Israel or Palestine… you may want to call it Israeltine… As long as the country provides liberties, safety and equal rights among its citizens people will accept that country, love it and defend it…. Hence I live in the states!!

:iagree:

LVR also has a good point

Good luck to you with this issue, and regarding of what happens keep us informed. It is an interesting manner, as most of us who have gotten through high school have been through this at one point or another...

Learn from this as a heads up for college in case you might run into this kind of professor...because you will need to learn to get passed with as little issue as possible

You know what's wrong with this picture ........ people in the US wants to sue someone ......... its just ridiculous how young they start on this ideology of lawsuits....:flame:

retard ....

primetime 12-18-2008 11:43 AM

Psk...You still talking lawsuit? You're in high school...and like someone said i'm sure you have a good head on your shoulders but let this issue die....seriously, it won't end in your favor...

OR..Let your parents handle it...You, yourself, can't do anything about it... Leave it at that...If you're raising a beef about this, let your parents handle the situation...that's as far as it goes...

sleepless 12-18-2008 11:46 AM

:iagree: enough said......

Yo Pski! I am a fellow Hebe:thumbup: Just had some family over from Israel for my wedding, including my cuz who just finished 4 years with IDF infantry. He saw combat in Gaza, and also served on the Lebanon border.

OK, now that you see that I am TOTALLY in agreement with you for your unwavering support of Israel, time to step back for a reality check...

I completely agree with B-Line and Primetime on this. Let this one go. Yeah, your teacher is a dick and he may be an Arab sympathizer and all that...but you know what? You only have to deal with him for a couple more months, and then you're done with high school, and you move on. Do NOT blow this out of proportion and make a bad situation worse. You will learn as you get older that you have to pick and choose your battles. You cannot stand up to every single incident that rubs you the wrong way or pisses you off, especially when there is another more important goal to attain. The goal here is to get a decent grade in this class, and to move on and to graduate. Calling a meeting between you and your teacher, or getting your parents involved is a really BAD move. It will make you stick out like a sore thumb, and can compromise your grades, your chances of getting into a good college, and so forth. And anyway, you are not going to change this guy's mind or make him alter his teaching style. Just do your course work, GIVE HIM THE ANSWERS HE WANTS TO HEAR, and swallow your nationalistic pride on this one. A year from now, when you're all done with high school you won't care about this guy, but you WILL care if he flunks you or gives you a bad grade, and this then compromises your opporunities.

The real battle that counts will be when you are in the IDF and are taking out Hamas bastards that would love to blow up Israeli school buses. Those are the battles you want to fight, the ones that make a difference and protect Israeli families and civilians. Taking out terrorist militants. Not this meaningless high school teacher.

And like everyone else said, forget the lawsuit idea. That's a non-starter....

X5rolls 12-18-2008 12:21 PM

You can't sue everyone that you disagree with. Lawsuits are a huge drain on time and resources - they have their limited places (we have too many law suits now) but I agree with those that say this is not one of them.

Decide what you want to do with your life and stick to those goals. If that's too ambitious a decision in high school (was for me, I had no idea) , decide where you want to pick your battles (another great suggestion from above) and don’t let idiots, morons, racists, anti-Semites change your path. Continue to speak up for what is right but carefully decided where the line is between speaking up and fighting where you won’t win and it will hurt you.

However, your intensity is so strong on these issues, you might want to focus your future in fighting via the political process.

Bottom line is, don't get distracted from your larger goals. Use your energy towards that purpose and you will be more successful.

Best of luck in whatever you decide to pursue.

thanks for the advice everyone, I have spoken with my teacher explained my issues and elaborated on my views of the whole Israel- Arab conflict. He understands now, I doubt it would of ever gone to court I was just letting out keyboard frustration haha.

To JGQ I am sure we view things very differently but I am also sure we view many things the same. Although I will most likely be going into the IDF as my family cannot seem to talk me out of it I feel the Israel government is a bunch of puppets and I feel that the Palestinian government is also a bunch of puppets, if it was not for either government just putting money in their own pockets I feel the solution would be right in front of them. I do not feel either as if either side is to blame although I will do whatever is necessary to protect my country and I am sure you feel them same.

Stan f-18 I really appreciate the advice man and mazal tov on the marriage!!

x5 rolls thank you aswell!
