Are you ready for Christmas?

I'm usually done and wrapped by now. I've been so busy at work, I haven't even thought about Christmas yet. :tsk:

So tomorrow, I'll be at Macy's at 6am, see what I can do there and then hit the rest of the mall when it opens at 8am. This is my worst nightmare. Christmas shopping the Saturday before. I LOVE shopping, I hate last minute Christmas shopping with all the nasty ass people.

I will be wearing my Santa hat though.

X5rolls 12-19-2008 08:15 AM

1/2 way done - hope to be finished before Monday.

Michelle 12-19-2008 08:31 AM

I'm about 10% done. :saad:

LivinLoudX54.4 12-19-2008 09:21 AM

Finished last night. Just be glad your not going out to finish on christmas eve lol

Bimmer Ese 12-19-2008 09:50 AM

I haven't even started yet. Not really in the Christmas mood this year. I didn't even put the lights up this year.

AzNMpower32 12-19-2008 10:14 AM

We got the Christmas tree up last week, but I have to do the lights tomorrow. We've been very busy with relatives and various other errands. X3 should be back today from service.

I'm very angry at the weather. :chair: It's always just a teeeeny bit on the warm side for snow (3-6°C/37-43F), but it's definitely COLD. So its been overcast since Sunday and dreary and wet and nasty. Cold rain sucks the most, especially when it comes in drizzle and misery.

I am going to wager that the area will not see snow until late January.

Come up this way. We're supposed to get blasted and it's all Weasels fault. :throw: He wished for snow, He's going to get it. We should get some funny stories about his adventure getting to the airport for his flight home this evening.

The first flakes are just starting to fall here.

E61Silver 12-19-2008 10:29 AM

Went into city yesterday and picked up my last gifts at Tiffany and Nintendo.

Tiffany no dog house for me!

Went by the tree and thought that it looked small and bland. The lights are really dull during the day.

You want angry? Look down...The forecast is for 72 here today. I could get into the modd if it was just cold; Im watching the weather report, and the front is literally on the NC/VA line...The luck!

ylwjacket 12-19-2008 11:49 AM

This year will be a drag around my family's house. My sisters have been hit by the recession (me too, but in a different sort of way), so they are pulling the old "let's not exchange gifts this year" thing. I hate that.

But, we are moving to a new house on the 27th. So, for my immediate family, Christmas for my kids is things like new bedroom furniture (crap that stuff is expensive), bedding stuff (ditto), and the like. We haven't decorated, because we'll have to box all up on Christmas anyways.

I will probably have Santa bring us a pool table or a ping-pong table or something fun, though, just so everyone doesn't feel totally ripped off.

cmyX6go 12-19-2008 12:03 PM

I'd say a new house is a pretty cool Christmas present. :)

Meiac09 12-19-2008 12:13 PM

Perks of a small family. College bookstore and hand painted shot glasses :woohoo:

realchef 12-19-2008 12:33 PM

Shopping was finished earlier this week.

Decorations were up two weeks ago (they come down on January 1)

It was -13 in Vancouver on the way to work this morning. A couple of snowfalls already, and it looks like we will have a white Christmas for a change.

Bought two new sets of Blizzak WS60 tires for our daughters, and got them installed before the snow arrived.

Got to try my new Honda snowblower (hydrostatic track drive) this week.

Definitely ready for Christmas, and winter.

StatenX5 12-19-2008 03:35 PM

Hey L - no pics? Which pair of shoes are you wearing with the Santa hat? And nothing else? Come on - I can dream right?

Not done with shopping...I thought I was done, but I forgot mom. Went to Louis V last night and DAMN those wallets are expensive...and was looking at my list and I also forgot one of my nephew...now, I have to go back to KOP again tomorrow with the other fools...

In conclusion, the only good thing coming out of this, I get to go to Florida for the break and do a little surfing.

At least its warm. Here, the weather's like teasing us. Its cold, but just not cold enough for frozen precip to make things exciting. I will take 22°C and rain over 7°C and rain anyday. And I hate, hate, hate cold weather.

Its much to wet for fancy Coach boots & bag, save them for a dry cold day.

LOL..Different strokes....I LOVE the cold. I know, this is probably not the best place to be living, but Im close to family. This time last year in England, it was like 20 degrees outside. The frost was on the window, you could feel Christmas in the air ...This year? We're spending the day picking up shells at the beach tomorrow. I dont mind the warm any other time of the year, but here, there are two seasons - hot, and warm!

B-Line 12-19-2008 08:44 PM

One of the benefits of being Jewish... I don't have to Christmas shop...

:)

Let's switch houses. :D I'll trade our weather, Northern VA traffic, taxes, revenue cops, illegal immigrants, and rubbish Northern VA roads for some of NC.

blondboinsd 12-19-2008 10:55 PM

I'm about 90% done!

I did the whole, Day after Thanksgiving thing.

I purchased my mother a Navigation System for her 3ER since she can't find her way out of a paper bag :)

My Dad got a new Blue-Ray Disc Player and the Race Car Experience that was previously mentioned here.

My Brother is moving out of his facility soon as he has been sober for 18 months *yay!!* and so he is getting 2 pairs of True Religions, actually 1 True Religion, 1 Rock and Republic and a Bed Bath and Beyond gift card.

I already bought myself some fabulous To Boot New York Shoes and I'm painting the soon to be 1 year old condo as my present to myself.

Happy Holidays!

 Good point. Although, for the first time in years, I spent Friday night almost completely indoors. I walked in three bars, and walked right back out of each. Some of the establishments "daun hur" are, well, lets just say, not very welcoming.... :nervous:

Michelle 12-20-2008 09:26 PM

I'm now up to 50% done. And all 50% are wrapped.

4 days to go!

cmyX6go 12-21-2008 05:57 AM

I didn't accomplish much :saad: I bought gifts for one niece and nephew. I'm clueless with the other kids. Back out today...

I'm proud of myself though, I only bought one pair of shoes for me. :D

trueX5er 12-21-2008 09:38 AM

Agreed with Seth, and anyways we did our gift giving last night.

Meiac09 12-21-2008 11:31 AM

You would think that shopping during a snowstorm would mean peace, quiet and an empty mall.
:thud:
I couldn't move in that place. I hate malls. hate, hate, hate.

maybe Freeport, where people actually have to go out and walk in this stuff. I don't mind cold, I don't mind snow. Wind... :chilled:

cmyX6go 12-21-2008 11:32 AM

I abandoned my shopping plans for now. It's nasty out...

AzNMpower32 12-21-2008 11:34 AM

I have to think of a couple things to buy for our relatives, but otherwise due to new, more stringent budgeting, I'm not letting myself buy anything this holiday season. It's all about the cost cutting and minimising expenses whenever possible.

and don't forget about all the new California/Midwest transplants who have been trying out this whole "driving" thing...

There was a day, where you would still be going 70 on 295 and getting passed when there was snow falling, but NO!. I spent about 45 minutes getting to the next town on US-1, because some idiot in an Audi was going 15 in a 50. it was NOT snowing hard. AND he had an Audi with snow tires.

7 of them between 9 and 14, both boys and girls :thud: I'm sure the older ones would appreciate $$ but I don't want to do that.

E61Silver 12-21-2008 11:55 PM

I would go to toys r-us

ylwjacket 12-22-2008 12:12 AM

I can tell you - they (kids - especially teens - I have 3) would appreciate money. My kids love tha tmore than anything from relatives.

No one can possibly know their taste in clothes or music, so thoise are non-starters. Gift cards are great too.

The thing they love most about Christmas is spending the day at the mall with their friends between New Year's and Christmas, power shopping and bargain hunting with gift cards or cash they got for Christmas. They are very proud of themselves when they come home with $10 jeans, or 2-for-1 sweaters, etc.

So, it's not the money so much, but it's what they accomplish with it afterwards that they love.

FWIW.

THIS evening...? I just got home, 2 days and $1,300 later.... and got stuck in Baltimore overnight as well! But did a bit of playing in the snow with the rental car though... :D

And to top that whole thing off, I haven't been in state to do ANY Christmas shopping in the last couple weeks, and quite a bit of my present buying money was just spent trying desperately to get home! Now I get to wait for work to reimburse me...

I just may do that. It's not that I don't want to give them money, I'd rather see the excited look on their face when they unwrap the perfect gift. It was so much easier when they were young.
