Yankees on a roll...

So after acquiring CC Sabathia, AJ Burnett, they have now acquired Mark Texiera after everyone said they were not in the Texiera race...

Now....Only one more left to get...Manny Ramirez on a 3 year deal... Trust me...They're taking a hard look at Man-Ram... I believe they can get this deal done...

Of course you know who the real winner in all this is? Super Agent Scott Boras...The guy probably has his own office at Yankee Stadium...Let's see, Alex Rodriguez, CC Sabathia, Mark Texiera, Johnny Damon...Some of his clients on the team just to name a few. Oh and Manny Ramirez also..

Sorry Yankee haters. I've been a Yankees fan all my life. Lived in New York City (Queens - Ha i should be a Mets fan but I'm not!) for half my life...

Once again, Yankees doing everything possible to buy a championship

primetime 12-24-2008 12:01 PM

Well...I think that they are fiercely committed to winning. MLB has no salary cap so they are playing within the rules. The Yankees generate the most revenue so they have the cash to spend on these Allstars.. Its easy to say they are "buying" championships but as I said they are playing by the rules. Also you can't over look 26 world championships and 39 world series appearances... Most of these were before the Steinbrenner era..

merry texiera-mas everyone. Rumor has it, yanks are in negotiations to sign Santa clause. I love it.

PersonaNonGrata 12-24-2008 12:14 PM

I'm not a baseball fan at all and from an outsider's perspective, and as a rational person, the salaries these guys are commanding and what the Yanks are willing to pay them is pure insanity. I understand that the players will get what they can and the organizations with the money will pay it if they have it. They're both at fault but baseball needs a salary cap for the sake of tickets prices/accessibility, image, competitiveness and parity, and simple "where the heck do salaries go from here".

UCrewX5 12-24-2008 12:32 PM

I never said that they weren't playing within the rules, only that once again they are attempting to buy a championship. With the highest payroll in baseball last year, did they even make the playoffs? I guess money can't buy everything ;)

(p.s. - yes, my Tigers also had one of the top payrolls in MLB last year and they ended up dead last in their division. So I am not a believer that simply spending money on marquis players will get you the desired end result.)

what would boston do?

motordavid 12-24-2008 02:43 PM

They must have gotten a good hunk of TARP dough...
oh wait, that gravy deal with NYC and NY State for the
new digs, the TV rights, and on and on and on...
better than TARP dough as they never have to pay it back.

Long time Yanks fan, but the money being thrown is fookin
absurd and obscene, imo. :yikes:

primetime 12-24-2008 03:21 PM

So the question then still remains.... Manny Ramirez? You know Scott Boras has that deal in his back pocket... Shop him around a little, see whats out there, and then when nobody can come up with the 75 million dollar 3 year deal that he wants, He'll call Brian Cashman and the Yankees will acquire Man-Ram as well.. That's my prediction anyway...
