Review of Morimoto's in Philly
10 Attachment(s)
Earlier this month, we got visit my old stomping grounds....the City of Brotherly Love....
Heard, they upgraded Philly with new restaurants....Iron Chef Morimoto opened his Japanese restaurant in Center City on Chestnut St. and my wife and I had a fabulous lunch!! The restuarant changes color as you eat there. The food was fabulous if you like Japanese food with some fusion. Anyone living in Philly/NJ/NYC area should check it out! Here are some pics of the restuarant and neighboring area (it's right by Independence Hall....just a block or so west of the Hall) BTW, saw the "The Duck" mobile in Philly....Apparently, it is an amphibian vehicle which can be driven in the street and then you can cruise the river with it. Maybe the next gen X5 should incorporate this feature? |
Haven't watched Iron Chef in a while, but I used to love that show! Morimoto rules!!
I went to school just outside of Philly (Villanova) but now I'm up by New York. I miss Philly - it's a great city. |
Nice pics! I saw the similiar Duck moblie in Boston.

Speaking of food, I see you live in Hoboken....I'm sure you have tried Patsy Grimaldi's Coal Oven Pizza....I had in Scottsdale once and thought it was the bomb. SG doesn't like NY style pizza.
Anyhow, since you close to NY, there is a fabulous Japanese-Fusion restaurant called Koi in L.A. and now they just opened one in NYC. You should check it out. www.koirestaurant.com Quote:

Glad you made it to Morimoto, Doc! Me and the future Mrs. have been twice for dinner, phenomenal. Even got to meet the Man and got him to autograph our bottle of Morimoto Ale, which they no longer serve.

Looks like a popular place - how long did you have to wait for a table? :bustingup

Yeah, silly me, I tried to get a table @ Tao in NYC last December as a walk-in and the next available was for 11 pm (this was on a weeknight) :wow: |

I haven't been to Koi yet, but I have been to Nobu a few times (another fine Morimoto establishment) ... |
Nobu is not owned by Morimoto. Acutally, there is another Japanese chef named Nobu Matsuhisa who started nice gourmet restaurant in L.A. called Matsuhisa. Then he started other ones in L.A., NYC, Vegas called Nobu.
Here is his website: http://www.nobumatsuhisa.com/flash/home.html However, jealous that you live close to a Grimaldi's....Have you ever been to the original one in Brooklyn. Also, there is another NYC Italian restaurant that I thought had excellent service, portions, etc. and they treat you like a King and you need a King's ransom for it, but Il Mulino is also great. They just opened one up in Las Vegas in Ceasar's. They also opened Bobby Flay's Mesa Grill in Vegas as well (pretty soon, all the big NYC restaurants will be out in Vegas). Love Todd English's Olives as well (Boston and Vegas). If you ever go to Koi, try their "Spicy Tuna on Crispy Rice"! It is quite addictive. If it is too spicy, then chase it down with some good sake! ;) Quote:
