QS, what's going on in Oakland?

I just saw some bits and pieces of the news...

Could use a little clarification..

Someone was shot in the back on New Years Eve?
There are riots going on?

I think what everyone wants to know is, are they looting the mall? I sure hope not!

Actually you should read the info.
This is not funny. There seem to be
no reason for shooting this kid in
the back. People are kinda tired of
wondering if they are going to get it
next.

I agree, it doesn't look like the officer should have fired, I just read the story on CNN BUT that does not make it okay for people to riot and smash store windows, injure people and smash car windows.

That isn't how you gain in the world.

I will see the entire story before passing judgement on the BART incident as there is usually more to the story.

Quicksilver 01-08-2009 06:31 PM

Of interest is the fact that the officer
decided not to talk to anyone about it,

Then when called in to be asked about it
had his lawyer show up instead to offer
a letter resigning from the force.

What's more Bart police refused to
discuss the case with anyone which
means the family was ignored and
given no information.

Then when the community ask for
information they we're given nothing.
No answer's.

There may be more but at this
point everyone agrees that this is
not the way this should have been
handled. You don't just shoot an unarmed
man in the back and walk away and expect
everyone to have a ho hum wait and see
attitude.

I think it's horrible.. I can't believe they would shoot someone like that.

It's really hard to dispute that video. It looks like the police used completely unjustifiable force (at least the shooter). They were easily handling the situation without any deadly force. Put the guy in cuffs and/or taser him if absolutely necessary. Since when did we start to allow cops to be executioners??
