I ended up with my mom's Intel Mac Mini which came with a 80gb 5400 hard drive and 1gb ram..... It was one slow computer even compared to my MacBook for some reason. I installed a new 160gb 7200 Seagate drive and bumped the memory to 2gb.... Night and day difference. I def recommend the 7200 rpm hard drive upgrade. I might even pick up one for the MacBook. I got the drive on Buy.com for ~$72.

Thanks for the info but the Mac Mini and the MacBook pro are 2 different computers.Your experience will be different than rastaFarai.

Yes, they are two different computers but we are talking HD performance gains and since the Mac Mini uses the same hard drives as MacBooks and MacBook Pros the performance gain you'd see would be very similar. They both use 2.5" SATA drives and as far as I know both ship with 5400 RPM drives.

Wow.... Sorry for attempting to offer some insight into something you appeared interested in. I thought the point of a public forum was to get advice/suggestions from a group not just one person. wtf???

I guess you took my response to rastaFarai as if i was asking for advice and or suggestions. However if you read my post you won't find a request for either.
But your correct it is a public forum and Sorry you took offense...... However since the OP did this install and i have the same MacBook pro I was asking them not for advice but how the performance of the new drive compared to the drive that was replaced. Although it was appreciated I wasn't asking for suggestions or advice regarding similar systems. I thought i made that clear when I said, "Thanks for the info but the Mac Mini and the MacBook pro are 2 different computers. Your experience will be different than rastaFarai." Did you notice I thanked you for your response? I also said That "Your experience will be different than rastaFarai". That was my way of being polite and that I was waiting for "rastaFarai's" response. I hope that clears up any misunderstanding..........;) Quote:

Don't own a mac
Hello Rasta,
Glad you got it figured out. I don't own a mac but the geeks over at Notebook forum are like nothing else I have seen:D . I own a Clevo and Sony and the folks over their have customized many of their machines to the hilt. I'm sure they can also direct you to other good Mac forums. Good luck! |
