Not sure how you work that one out, if the limit is 65mph and you're going more than 30+ over...I'd say that is speeding.

Of course he pleaded not guilty.. Remember, The Law and Justice are not the same thing.
And 'not guilty' doesn't mean, "I didn't do it." - It just means I'm going to fight "the law" which is not the same as fighting "Justice"..

In MD you'd still say "guilty" guess VT is different.

You generally plea guilty if you have a plea bargain because entering a guilty plea suspends your right to trial and puts your fate in the hands of the judge

In MD you'd go before the judge when you make your plea, agreement before hand is not necessary for a speeding violation.

That's right. I had a good day today, when my ticket was dismissed in court, because Mr. State Trooper lost his notes/evidence.

"How do you plea?"
"Not guilty"
"Let's hear the evidence"
"Uh sir..........I seem to have lost his records. Can't find them, so motion to dismiss"
"Ok. Case dismissed, you're free to go"

It took perhaps, 45 seconds. After I'd waited 90 minutes. Saved me $156.

If you plea guilty, then the judge doesn't bother hearing the officer and his explanation, and assumes what you were written up for is true.

He claimed he got me 79 in a 55 back on 5 Sept 2008, and wrote it down to 74/55 which isn't reckless driving. I honestly don't even think I was going that fast at that point, because I made a point to reduce speed as I approached the town. I like to cruise quickly, but always reduce speed in rural towns.

US-15 between Gordonsville and Orange is a killer. Most of the folks in court had tickets on that 9 miles stretch of divided highway. The limit of 55mph is always enforced, even though the road itself lends itself to higher speeds. It is as good as a German autobahn in pavement quality, no corners, width, and good sightlines. At the tail end of that road, the limit drops to a boggling 25mph with no increase in traffic or intersections, so it's not natural to reduce speed.
