Phelps can't put his bong down...

No matter how many medals you have, you can't win brains :tsk: What a moron. "It was regrettable" what was? Getting caught? http://www.britishblogs.co.uk/images/212531.jpg |
Major oops & stupid. Heard he is dumb as a rock.
His sponsors are entitled to a public persona of a responsible person. The business people on the other side of his deal potentially lost value in their investment. I don't think that is fair. |
Seriously...who gives a shit? He's a grown man now. Sure he regrets getting caught, wouldn't you if you you were making his calibre endorsement salary? And of course it won't happen again as he'll likely smoke in the privacy of his own home. I highly doubt he'll loose any endorsements deals.
Some parents will say, "well, he's a hero or role model to my children". Newsflash: Athletes and on-camera talent/celebrities are not role models. Parents are! |
Swimming is hard enough as it is, and is pretty damn bad when hung over. Why the f would you smoke when your life centers around holding your breath?

what else can you do with millions of dollars in this country? well, he probably already bought a couple of mansions, exotic cars, opened a couple of local restaurant, bars. now its time to enjoy. next olympic wont make him anymore money than he already has. so why not enjoy now?
|
chilliwilli couldn't agree more, who cares....
that fact that this is more relavent along with Jessica Simpsons weight and not that our country is slowly consuming itself, is the american way |
What about his sponsors and the people there that pushed to get him lined up and signed?
Some of them will have to drop him. Tough s&it for them? Did he tell the sponsors that he would not embarass them? How much will it cost the sponsors? Do they have investments in producing him already spent? So all these people are just screwed and it's ok then. Once he signed contracts he has additional responsbilities. He is just dumb like a rock. |
There's a morals clause in his contract.

Send em to jail. Lock em up. Throw away the key..
Who needs criminals like this on our streets?
What a world we have become! http://www.cnn.com/2009/CRIME/02/03/...ana/index.html Sheriff investigates whether Michael Phelps smoked pot STORY HIGHLIGHTS Charges will be filed if warranted, sheriff's spokesman says Tabloid published photo it says was taken at University of South Carolina Photo shows Phelps with a water pipe used for smoking pot Phelps apologized over weekend for "regrettable behavior" Next Article in Crime » (CNN) -- A South Carolina sheriff's office is investigating whether Olympic gold medalist Michael Phelps smoked marijuana on the University of South Carolina campus. Michael Phelps is facing a criminal investigation into whether he smoked marijuana on a college campus. Authorities will file criminal charges if the investigation determines that they are warranted, a spokesman said Tuesday. "If someone breaks the law in Richland County, we have an obligation as law enforcement to investigate and to bring charges," Sheriff Leon Lott said in a statement. "The Richland County Sheriff's Department is making an effort to determine if Mr. Phelps broke the law. If he did, he will be charged in the same manner as anyone else. The sheriff has a responsibility to be fair, to enforce the law and to not turn a blind eye because someone is a celebrity." Phelps admitted "regrettable behavior" on Sunday after a British newspaper published a photograph of him smoking marijuana through a bong. The tabloid News of the World showed Phelps using the bong during what it said was a November party at the University of South Carolina, in Richland County. Both university police and Columbia, South Carolina, police have said they would not pursue charges, according to The State newspaper in Columbia. It was unclear where the party took place, the paper said, or whether it was on the USC campus. "I engaged in behavior which was regrettable and demonstrated bad judgment," said Phelps, who won a record eight gold medals at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing, China, in a statement Sunday. Don't Miss Phelps apologizes Sports lawyer: Phelps could lose endorsements "I'm 23 years old, and despite the successes I have had in the pool, I acted in a youthful and inappropriate way, not in a manner that people have come to expect from me," he said. "For this, I am sorry. I promise my fans and the public -- it will not happen again." The U.S. Olympic Committee also issued a statement that said in part, "Michael has acknowledged that he made a mistake and apologized for his actions. We are confident that, going forward, Michael will consistently set the kind of example we all expect from a great Olympic champion." In 2004, Phelps was arrested on charges of driving under the influence in Salisbury, Maryland. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months probation. He also issued an apology after that incident. Phelps is one of 12 Olympic athletes who have signed on to "My Victory," an initiative launched last year by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency aimed at keeping competitive sports clean. |
It's turning into a 3 ring circus. Can't say I'm surprised. I honestly (while I don't condone drug use) couldn't care less about this, think it's being overexposed and will be the first to admit it doesn't change my view on him.
