iPhone and Android owners - an App is now available to access Xoutpost.com

Xoutpost has been partnering with Quoord to develop a native iPhone app that will work with our forum community. The app is nearing the end of the beta development cycle and has been submitted to Apple to be made generally available on the App Store. We are anticipating approval soon, hopefully by early May.

This will be a cool App for those that use the iPhone, I think you will find it to be a very nice way to stay in touch with the site when you are on the move.

Stay tuned for more developments soon....

Jeff

So looking forward to this.

How do you normally load Apps? Can you get them from the Apple App Store?

tijanaw 05-01-2009 02:55 PM

Yes the App store and Cydia. It's way easier on cydia since you can download "over the air" without connecting to itunes.

In that case then I would think you will be able to download the App once it is available on the App Store. Still waiting for Apple to give it the seal of approval.

Gobbleoff 05-02-2009 06:36 PM

why not just put in a function on the site, if a user logs on, it detects an iphone (or mobile phone for that matter) it changes the template to a more mobile friendly template? there is a download for it at vbulletin.org

Pentium 05-03-2009 05:08 AM

cool! I will try it soon!

Quicksilver 05-03-2009 05:17 AM

I load apps directly from Apple to the iPhone without using iTunes.
3G works well, but Wi-Fi mo betta

UCrewX5 05-04-2009 02:08 PM

Sorry folks, but it looks like there may be a bit of a delay. It appears the time it takes to get the app hosted on the Apple app store take a lot longer than was originally expected, and the early submission (since March 1st) didn't help to get this out of the door earlier. The app has been "approved" by Apple but it seems there is another month long wait to get the legal and contract sorted out. Stay tuned...

bmwman3241 06-02-2009 02:50 PM

Any updates on this? Would be "useful" when bored at school.

UCrewX5 06-02-2009 03:03 PM

The hope was that this would be loaded on the Apple App Store on June 1. Unfortunately there have been some further minor delays and the app is now expected to be ready within the next couple weeks.

Quard has also revisited their business model and there will be a $2.99 charge for the app. Note that none of this goes to Xoutpost.

Kewl X5 06-03-2009 01:59 AM

Wow, I guess Apple really control their App Store!! Thanks for making the App for the iPhone users.

bmwman3241 06-03-2009 07:58 AM

Seeing how Apple has their keynote coming up, they may back up their app store approvals for a while. I hope we could have it on June 18-19 so it could be one of the first apps on our iPhones.

BTW, I don't mind paying $3 but why let the company charge for an app which they developed for YOU? Isn't their a contract that allows you to distribute it for free or get a percentage towards Xoutpost?

The developer didn't write this exclusively for Xoutpost. Although we were one of the first vBulletin sites to participate in their alpha and beta tests, the application is written to work with any forum. My main concern was providing a useful tool for our membership.

Maybe you should do what Gobbleoff said and implement the mobile function into the server so it could be used on a mobile browser as well for non iPhone users.

Kewl X5 06-24-2009 09:10 PM

Kudos for getting an iPhone app version of xoutpost.com However, I would also follow Gobbleoff recommendations....NOT everyone here has an iPhone but there are plenty of BB, WinMobile, Palm OS users as well....it would be great to have a mobile vBullentin version. It has worked well in the past.

Nice, but needs a few upgrades. Better picture support, most of the time I can only see the first one.

Unread post recognition would be nice too.

I think I'll pass

UCrewX5 12-08-2009 04:35 PM

For those that may have missed this post previously, there an an iPhone app for accessing the Xoutpost forum. To access the app, go to the App Store and do a search for Tapatalk.

The current version now supports access to your Private Messages, posting threads, plus a whole lot more.

Note that in addition to the pay version ($2.99), there is now also a free version that gives read-only capabilities:
The Tapatalk Lite on iPhone

There are few news and updates from Tapatalk development team that we would like to catch your attention. We have released a "Lite" version of Tapatalk for free - this is essentially the same as the paid version except with read-only access (hence the name "RO") to your forum. As a lite user, yon can check private messages, latest posts and topics the same fashion as the paid version. Tapatalk RO is released at iTunes app store and you can download it here.
You can also visit our website for detail comparison betweeen the lite and paid version.
The Tapatalk app on Nokia and Android

We promised that Tapatalk will not only work on iPhone and now we are happy to announce that Tapatalk Nokia beta is now ready. Tell your members to grab the beta copies of Nokia app and it is absolutely free. Here is how:

  1. Open the Nokia web browser in your device, enter URL: "http://www.tapatalk.com/nokia/tapatalk.dm", you will be prompted by installation confirmation and it should be installed automatically.
  2. Report bugs and issues at our website
Complete information can be found at our website.
Tapatalk Android app is also entering Beta, if you or any of your members want to have a preview, feel free to drop us a post at this forum and we will send him/her the beta app! Want to get some screenshots of this Android app? We found one of our fellow beta-tester has uploaded a few over at androidcommunity.com!

acedeucy 12-08-2009 04:45 PM

Xoutpost? Yeah! There's an app for that! :nanana:

UCrewX5 12-22-2009 11:20 AM

An updated Tapatalk version has just been uploaded which allows you to upload photos right from your iPhone to the forum to share the latest and greatest pictures to the community. Also the updated version improves performance and has full support of the new Tapatalk Android app!

In case you don't know, the Tapatalk Android app is available and is currently free during the Beta period. Grab your copy from Android Market now! Just search for "tapatalk" in Android Market and you will find it.

I agree 100%. Creating this $3 app has turned out to be nothing but more work, Xoutpost gets nothing monetarily from it, and its limited to iPhone users. Using some free and simple coding to format the site to detect a cellphone seems like it would be 10x easier and works for ALL users instead of only two phones.

PersonaNonGrata 12-22-2009 07:12 PM

Cool! Thanks Jeff. I just downloaded Tapatalk for my Android. It looks pretty cool so far. Is there a way to not show that the post was from my Android phone via Tapatalk? It currently shows as an automatic signature line. I want to be stealthy and not let the world know I'm posting from my phone. :D

On the iPhone there is a "Setting" that allows you to globally turn on or off the automatic signature line. I'm not familiar with the Android OS, but I am assuming there is probably something similar that allows you to configure this.

Just checking how easy it is to post from my iPhone. The new update is alot better than the first one. I couldn't figure out how to login and reply, but I got it now.

Picture uploaded fast using 3G.
Why does it cut off half the picture when you add a picture from your picture library?

BTW, when you search Xoutpost, 2 come up and one doesn't work. Maybe delete it or something?

Any Blackberry (Storm) love?

m5james 02-16-2010 05:33 PM

My internet browser does everything just fine, I don't see what an app is going to change for me. It'd be cool I guess to have one for my Treo, but it's not going to happen and the site works fine for me so far.

meandmyX 02-17-2010 04:32 PM

now lets get one going for the great Blackberry and im a happy camper

Juanted 03-22-2010 06:49 PM

Blackberry is SO... 2005. :D

App works great. Use it all the time.

Don't like the app? Don't use it.

By the way, we've done the mobile phone thing for Xoutpost and X5World... the experience through the app is much more elegant, I think.

Really stupid question... how do I find xoutpost in tapatalk? Search is annoying. Need better results in apparently when looking for forum.

I assume you mean within the App itself.

1. On the bottom left of the screen tap on "Network"
2. On the top right of the screen tap on "Search"
3. In the search box type in "xoutpost"
4. Select Xoutpost.com and you should be on your way.

rastaFarai 05-28-2010 08:25 AM

Thanks. Just found it. Wasn't searching properly for some reason. I'm getting response 500 from server though can't do anything. I'm on android. No luck. I should be signed in properly

m5james 05-31-2010 12:27 PM

I'm on Android as well. I just downloaded Opera 5 Mini because it has a great option that formats the webpages to fit the screen, avoiding the whole zoom in and out thing that I can't stand. I also installed Opera Bridge to make Opera my default web browser. Works great and I don't have to use Tapatalk and the mentioned issues associated with trying it for certain things on this forum. Opera does everything just as if I was n a normal PC.
