looking for a reliable transport company from NY - CA

Hi,

I am going to transport the X5 from NY to California. Does anyone know any good and reliable truck company? How much I would expect? I called DAS and they offered enclosed or opened carrier but enclosed is $400 more. Is it worth to do enclosed?

Thanks in advance!

There's been some posts on moves like this. There's this thread that has some useful info. You could try searching on "transporter" too.

When I moved from CA to NY, the car went in the moving van and the SUV went on the open transporter. The SUV suffered no damage.

Brian- when you did that, did you have to empty any fluids out of the car that went in the enclosed trailer? i.e. empty the gas tank?

No, they did nothing. Just drove the car up onto the bottom level. There were three or four other family loads of boxes of furniture (no more cars) in that moving van!

Hi,

Why do you need to empty any fluids or the tank? Also, they said additional charges if top loaded.....
Any information is very appreciated!

I've used Passport Transport before. No need to drain any fluids... Passport was very good.

Horseless carriage doesn't make you drain either, i was just curious.

Most of the carriers offer additional insurance coverage upto $50,000 but it charges $150 more. It covers physical damage and act as a primary provider. I was wondering if I really have to buy this coverage since I have my own Auto insurance policy.

Also, enclosed is $400 more than open? Is it necessary? One thing for sure is that open carrier will be much more dirty...

Thanks.
