MAF = Mass AirFlow Sensor |
sorry i missed this thread jv...
you do want a 02 or 03 if you can get the right price on it. when they switch oil grade they also did a cylinder rings change, hence the "need" for the top shelf oil. like josh, chrisf and others said changes across the years were: the headlights got the angel eyes, the euro headlights have the clear side markers. nav got widescreen and dvd. dash got the gray face and silver gauge rings. steering wheel got the thicker m steering wheel. not much else... otherwise there is not much different from the entire model lineup. not many options you can get as it comes fairly well optioned out. its a very stout car. heavy but handles itself very well. engine has been bulletproof but may eat a oil. mine didn't but i change oil pretty often with the track days i put in so i never saw any oil lost. my advice would be to get it.... i love that car!!!! that goes for you too kevin!!!! |
I gave one a spin today, test drove on highway and streets through the city. I was impressed. Clutch felt nice and smooth too. It's carbon black with the red seat inserts and door panels. I won't be able to get a look at it in the air till tomorrow and I am driving another one tomorrow as well. Rob_ was kind enough to check the VINs for me, they both seem legit. Both are still under the original warranty, only one could be CPO'd. Thanks for all the input, fellas. The 01's and 00's are going down into the low to mid 30's, the 02 & 03's are between 56 for the CPO with 8K miles and 41 for the one I drove today with 48K on her.

JV, if you do get it, get a CPO'ed one. You will then get the 100K warranty. Be sure to also get the 100K maintenance extension. Cost for dealer is $1100 so work your way up from there. That way, no worries about brakes, clutch, etc. Good luck! BTW, be very careful of the really low mileage cars. These cars do need to be driven. Lots of garage queen M5's with low mileage have been experiencing carbon buildup issues.
