I don't know if I'd call any of them "clunkers"... just more expensive to drive. But this is a case of you get what you pay for. If you want cheap to operate and drive, buy a scooter.

blondboinsd 08-30-2009 12:41 PM

I would agree with the MB and M5 because of their complex electrical equipment and reliability issues. I would never want to own one outside of warranty. The same goes for really any German car because of their excessively high cost

Weasel 08-30-2009 12:48 PM

But still, to use the term "clunker" seems harsh, just expensive to drive/maintain.
Sure the MB and M5 can cost more to maintain in 5 years than what a honda civic costs, but drive the civic, then get back in that german marvel... see which one feels ike a clunker!

:iagree:

the day an M5 becomes a clunker in comparison to a civic is the day that the world ends

AzNMpower32 08-30-2009 02:23 PM

If one simply wants cheap, reliable transportation, might I suggest a pogo stick?

Gixxerboy63 08-30-2009 03:28 PM

clunker?

:iagree:

Those springs are a timebomb. I suggest a unicycle.

I would agree but the saddle on the unicycle would be a pain in the A

AzNMpower32 08-31-2009 11:31 AM

I think pogo sticks are cheaper than Unicycles. I don't see how the springs should fail, (especially under warranty if applicable) unless one weighs as much as an elephant.

:iagree:...After awhile, these Yahoo"News-like" lists get pretty thin, imo.

Forbes used to be a mag worth reading on occasion; that "article" reads
like it was cranked out by a summer intern during a butt break.

Forbes.com...a shadow of its former self.

"Clunkers"?! Let's see how many times we can use the word clunker
in future articles.

Clunker is now the new catchword. Bailout was the word for the first six months of the year.

Stimulus. Don't forget "stimulus".

So...if I could pick up a used M5 under warrantly without a big chunk of the depreciation, would it still be a clunker?

explicitdwk 09-02-2009 04:09 AM

haha pogo stick it is.

MrLabGuy 09-02-2009 02:18 PM

Where is the last model BMW 745 on that list. I'd expect it to be #1 or #2 considering all the bugs when introduced. After-all, when you need to replace something as simple as a window regulator you need to introduce it to the rest of the car via software integration. That process alone takes several hours I'm told.
