Just curious, how true is this--"There's a map for this..."
Verizon removes gloves, begins 'There's a map for that' anti-AT&T ad campaign (video)
I understand that AT&T 3G service is very quick, even quicker than any CDMA EV-DO Rev A phone...but, that is if you can get 3G service for AT&T phones. However, Verizon has a bunch of older outdated phones...except for their new Google phones finally coming to Verizon. Is the AT&T map misleading or even an old map?? |
Depends on who you ask?
I believe this is recent. http://www.xti9.com/att/att3gfull.gif But then so is this one. http://www.evdoinfo.com/content/view/2519/64/ |
I compared your map and Verizon's AT&T map and it looks to be the same. :wow:
However, I remember having 3G on my smartphone since 2006 and my friends on Verizon even had it about a year before that. AT&T's map looks like Verizon's 3G map from 3 years ago... AT&T need to start building up those 3G towers or are they getting ready for 4G LTE? Heard Verizon is already working on 4G LTE towers already. Quote:

Not news to you I know but
No-matter how much chest thumping any of them do none of them are worth a quarter if they don't work where you need them to work even if the map say's it will. Personally I'm still blown away by Nextel direct connect. From San francisco to brazil in an instant, clear as a bell...... |

AT&T 3G is not bad, try Europe. I had to look up what the little O meant on my iPhone (GPRS) and why the hell I was getting it in Paris. |

AT&T is ridiculous. The map clearly says 3G vs 3G. Not 3g vs 2G. Not no coverage vs 3G.
It's only misleading to AT&T's legal dept and those who need a RIF class. |
But I believe Verizon is correct to state that the blank area in AT&T's map is NO 3G coverage. The Map shows 3G vs. 3G, not 3G vs. Edge 2.5G+3G.
However, AT&T is losing market share because of their smaller 3G coverage and not because of some Verizon ad. Now, what AT&T needs to do is plan for the future and push for 4G LTE coverage nationwide and they will have the upper hand over Verizon. |
Legal wrangling at it's best........;)
AT&T even says it has "no quarrel with Verizon advertising its larger 3G network. Verizon's already changed the ads once at AT&T's behest, editing them to remove the phrase "out of touch" and adding a "Voice and data services available outside of 3G areas" small print disclaimer at the end. Apparently that wasn't enough for AT&T, which says the ads still confuse non-technical viewers into thinking AT&T provides no service at all outside of its 3G coverage. But AT&T may have a point when they say "the ads still confuse non-technical viewers into thinking AT&T provides no service at all outside of its 3G coverage. |
If the iphone becomes available for Verizon, it will be game over. That is the major thing keeping AT&T sales up. Verizon is much better as far as national coverage is concerned. It would be great if you could could pair AT&T phones with Verizon's network.

I'm not exaggerating when I say about 75% of my calls are dropped on the AT&T network. That has gone up significantly since the addition of SMS photo texting. We have a rule among AT&T users that who ever initiated the call calls back when the call is dropped. That way we are not continuing to call each other back getting voice mail when the call has dropped.
When I first made the rule people laughed but now think it is a good idea because it happens so much. I even tell people on lan lines or other networks because I know the call will drop on my end. I love my iPhone but I often think of leaving due to the poor service. I'm in the San Francisco area and calls in peak times 5-6pm drop about 95% of the time after a minute or so. |

Are you moving in your car when the calls drop? I have to say that except for a few dead zones I never have a dropped call with Verizon. Verizon does cost more and the phones are not as nice. They act mostly like the monopoly phone company of the 60's. |
If you want dropped calls try Sprint. AT&T Works well for me, except in concrete buildings, when all you will get is Verizon. However, I would be paying about $400 per month versus $200 to get equal services with crappier phones with Verizon, so I think I'll pass. You know that Verizon WILL find some way to F*ck up the iphone with their proprietary crap. It also doesn't work overseas which is a no for me.
I've never had problems with dropped calls with AT&T unless im in west moosef*ck Maine, and then I'm pretty sure even Globalsat doesn't work. The only thing that happens from time to time is 5 minutes of it not going at all. With the crisis there, don't expect anything of the California infrastructure in the next several years. |

In answer to the original question, turns out that it isn't really true - AppleInsider | AT&T defends its data network from Verizon ad attacks

The new commercials with the land of the misfit toys is pretty funny.

Here's Engadget's take on AT&T vs. Verizon:
Editorial: Hey, AT&T -- drop lawsuits, not calls AT&T responds to Verizon's 3G ad campaign -- by bragging about EDGE |
I guess AT&T lost their injunction against Verizon: AT&T loses request for injunction against Verizon's Map for That ads
But, AT&T is not taking this lying down: AT&T 'hits' back at Verizon's Map for That campaign with an 'ad' of its own The drama continues!! |
