Who needs GPS, when you have the arrows. You have a split second to react. That's it. GPS is a nice marketing ploy, but that's about it.

Yes, if you plan on driving down an empty highway at 125mph, then you're screwed regardless. And even with a jammer, the cop is still likely to pull you over when he gets a reading back on his gun that makes no sense to him. The goal of speeding in an area where laser is present is to mind the drivers around you, their current speed and keeping adequate distance so the detector can pick up on those being hit in front of you. That's the only preventative measure.

I got nailed with the Escort with Laser in MA. I didn't know where it was coming from and with a few cars in front of me, figured it couldn't have been me that just got nailed.

If you like the others, go for it. Personally, I love the arrows and the updates that come along with the V1. Unless radar changes drastically over the next few years (outside of K, Ka and Laser), I find all the other detectors a waste.

In the UK all the forces now use Laser only. I have not seen a radar based system in years. We also have the fixed SPECS camera system which logs your numberplate on sets of cameras a known distance apart and works out how fast you were going on average between the two. The newer SPECS 3 system has just gone live and that uses networked cameras so will work on different streets and lanes!!

On top of that we have red light cameras, front/rear facing speed cameras using inductive loops in the road and front/rear facing radar based cameras. Licence to print money or what!!

Most UK drivers who have bought detectors, use GPS based systems which know where all the fixed and approved mobile sites are (all sites must have approval). The one I use - Road Angel Professional Connected - is linked up via the on board mobile phone SIM to provide real time updates from other owners, assuming of course owners are updating! We have som many different camera based systems now both fixed, semi-mobile and hand held that it's becoming a serious issue (and speeding is a serious issue I know) that enforcement has lost a lot of credibility in the UK. It's seen as another stealth tax. One camera at the bottom of the M11 motorway to the East of London makes the UK Governement £500,000 a year (around $800,000US) at £60 a pop + at least 3 points on your licence (12pts = 28 day discretionary ban), and that's just 1 camera!!

Oh, and should you decide to fit a laser jammer, they are detectable by the speed gun when they fire back and you get prosecuted for impeding a Police Officer in the execution of his/her duty, and you lose your car!

Laser jammers are not universally illegal in the USA, only in some areas (in fact I believe in less than 10 states are they illegal). Same goes for radar detectors which I believe are only illegal in two states. They are also not "detectable" by the speed gun, you should understand the technology of how they work as it's quite interesting and will help you chances of avoiding a ticket.

You point of fixed cameras is accurate though. The same goes for the USA and that is why radar detectors with GPS capability are becoming ideal, especially for those that do not exclusively drive on highways. This capability is a feature not offered by all detectors, a fact some people refuse to acknowledge.
