That 10-22 lens is fabulous, imo.
I rented one and, it's on my buy/"need" list...

Good price; though I have seen them for under $7 Bens,
but that was last fall and the price may have inched upward.
The only downside is the lens hood is optional, (on a $700 lens, WTF?!),
and good filters are pricey.

No opin on the speedlite.

Maybe my commission checks from my pic in you photo will cover some
of the cost for me to get that lens?! ;)

Had that lens on my Rebel and it was great. Very wide angle. Can be distorted a tad but overall I loved it. What are you going to be using it for?

Amazon price on the flash is the same as B&H Photo. I've had this flash for about 2 years now and I love it. I use it mostly in manual mode and off camera with wireless trigger on a flash stand. Good recycle times and controls are not bad once you get use to it.

No experience with that lens but I've heard good things. It's not on my wish list however as I'm contemplating a 5D Mk II in the future (that's where the wish part of the wish list applies).

Flash is rock solid, you will be very happy with it. It's the most solidly built flash I've ever owned.

Never used that lens, but it's very very wide and you could get some distortion. Did you look at the 17-40L also? The 17-40 is my every day lens.

It's an EF-S mount lens -- it's only meant for crop bodies, so the edge distortion one would expect is less of an issue.

The 17-40 would be a very good alternative, particularly as it's an L-series lens, and using it on a crop body would give an extremely useful focal range for most purposes. It also has the advantage of being just fine for usage on a full-frame body, so if you ever decided to change to a FF body, you could keep the lens (the 10-22 would NOT work on FF).

580EX II -- no experience, but my other Canon flashes (550 and 420) are fine; I'd assume it's better if only due to superior guide number versus my flashes, but I haven't really found the need for more power/faster cycle time.

I was thinking on getting the 17-40l but I wanted something wider and yes the distortion that it can produce scares me a bit since I’m not good photography and I need all the help I can get from any of these lens :(

Like everyone has stated, the flash is as good as it gets. I got the 480EXII to save money and I don't use a flash very much anyway.

Personally, I wouldn't buy that lens mainly because it's a EF-S mount and I don't think I'll own a crop body forever (or at least a long time) but I do foresee keeping lenses for use with future bodies. If you think you'll ever get a full-frame body I'd not bother spending on an EF-S lens.

That being said, the lens has gotten great reviews and with a crop body will give you the wide angle you might be looking for. I suppose you could sell the lens if and when you get a full-frame body. :dunno: You have to figure out what will work for you.

Great comparison site for Canon lenses and their image quality -- both look pretty impressive. I can only personally vouch for the 17-40L: it's a great lens, reasonably sharp stopped down just a little bit, and only has slight barrel distortion and/or vignetting at the wide end/wide open.

If you get a chance, I'd try them on whatever body you're using. Even with a 1.6x crop body, the 10-22 will give you only a 35mm equivalent at the long end -- if you're ever taking pictures of people (not big group shots), you're going to need to be very close. Not only will this necessitate having very confident subjects, but you also have to be very careful of significant barrel distortion, especially at the very wide end.
