So, no news on this today?

Apple is sticking with AT&T.

Quicksilver 01-27-2010 06:23 PM

Not sure about that as far as the iPhone is concerned.

AT&T still has an exclusive on the iPhone until June (it was a 3 year deal with Apple). After that, it would surprise me if there wasn't a version made available for CDMA-based carriers. It won't be exactly the same experience, however, as CDMA (Verizon and Sprint) cannot do voice and data at the same time on their 3G networks.

:iagree:

But at least I can make a phone call in NYC & SF with Verizon! ;) Eventually, AT&T and Verizon will both have 4G LTE...now, who will be the first to have a fully expanded 4G network?

Yes, but also the CDMA is for Verizon ONLY. GSM is worldwide, I jb'ed my iPhone 3G and used it on SFR, Orange UK, T-Mobile DE, O2 and Swisscom. The R+D costs would be almost as atrocious as Verizon's data plan pricing. Also, fun fact, driving up 95, my friends VZW Blackberry tour took 15 minutes to load the detour info for the interstate near me thats shut down. It takes less time for BMW assist to tell me that, and thats saying something. Iphone took 90 seconds.

I still don't get this "I can't make a call unless it's on Verizon stuff".
I still have no problem with AT&T. Of course there a few areas where
AT&T has reception problems but so does Verizon. In fact all
cell phone providers have the same kind of problems so everybody's
in the same boat.....

Verizon had a dead spot halfway up my driveway when I lived in Greater Boston. I honestly have never had dropped call issues with AT&T. If you want dropped calls, try 90's Nextel.
