New pepper ?

This may be a cardinal sin on this forum but I think its fair we keep tabs on the competition! What do you think of the new looks. I really like what they have done with it, interior and exterior. You might note the panamera interior, the only good thing on that unsightly sedan. Turbo(500hp) and S model(400hp) hit US in june. 6cyl and 6cyl hybrid in the fall. If only my local Porsche dealer wasn't so snooty and arrogant.

Wow..love it. We just did a front end collision on 2004 Cayenne S, great car. This looks a lot better though

LeMansX5 02-25-2010 09:50 PM

Still ugly....interior is nice though.

Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder. I think both interior and exterior are fugly ;puke;

I think it looks pretty bad ass.

X5 Meister 02-25-2010 10:15 PM

What the hell happened to the back of it? Looks like a Volvo that was microwaved too long.

alexmish 02-25-2010 10:42 PM

3 words for interior - TOO MANY BUTTONS...
1 word for exterior - HYUNDAI

X5 Meister 02-25-2010 10:51 PM

Definitely not too many buttons since there is still ample room to add a few more. The center steering wheel spoke could accommodate a few as could all the interior grab handles. If the nav display isn't a touch screen, then let's make it one. And what the hell, why not throw a button or two on each of the pedals ...

I thought beauty was in the eye of the beer-holder! :D Either way, I agree that thing is Hideous! Looks like a Hyundai especially from behind. Porsche likes to put a lot of buttons everywhere! Have you seen the new Panamera? Center console looks like a frickin 747 with all those buttons. Opposite thinking to BMW, who believes in a clean interior and replacing all those switches with one controller...

CarsRmyVICE 02-26-2010 01:00 AM

I also feel bmw has mastered the art of interior design. Not too much flash.. just beauty by way of function. When it comes to design..... elegance follows function. With that said I think porsche has done a good job improving the cayenne. I still prefer the x5 all around but I do feel that porsche has done a better job improving the cayenne. I also respect the fact that this is not merely an update but a new model, I am sure the next gen X5 will blow the peppers socks off. Also, we should take note that the model shown is the 100k+ turbo, which btw cannot compete with the X5m performance wise or in the looks department! Reason for a little celebration..no? The redic performance SUV...i mean SAV category belongs to BMW:D:DCheers:thumbup:

Unfortunately, that is probably going to be very shortlived. I am as big of a BMW fan as they come, but the current Cayenne Turbo S is just a tick off the X5M's acceleration figures. I read the comparo in Car & Driver that said the S stopped quicker, had a higher speed in the lane change test and pulled higher g's on the skidpad. I do love the X5M, but the new top dog Cayenne Turbo S will likely push the bar even higher. Then hopefully BMW can do the same with the next gen X5, depending on which direction they go with it and super high horsepower SUV's are not outlawed by the gov't by then. :D

Yeah, Porsche LOVES buttons. The 911 and the Panamera is the same way. Honestly, with all these buttons, it actually makes me like iDrive and Mercedes' COMAND mouse/knob.

I do think the new design is better than the last. There were 2-3x since the debut of the Cayenne, that I was at a Porsche dealership, working on trade deals either with a BMW or a Benz over the years....and each time I either backed down, or purposely/sub consciously was difficult to make the deal fall apart.

I do think I like the front, better than the rear though. I like the old fashioned way P O R S C H E is written on the boot lid though!

bmwman3241 02-26-2010 07:38 AM

I think the current model exterior is better than this one. Looks like a FX or Hyundai.
The interior is very nice, even though it has too many buttons.

fedja355 02-26-2010 07:58 AM

Looks like Hyundai Santa Fe from behind..

it is a major upgrade imo... the old one looked like a round pig but this one is much more defined and has aggressive lines that flow pretty well. The front is definitely meaner. I think they meshed the RDX & FX designs together. But the rear looks nothing like a Porsche anymore. About the buttons, I think Audi competes with them there. ;) Even though they have their nice MMI system, they would have 2 separate large buttons that 1 toggle could've accomplished.

I think it looks exactly like a Porsche. One of Porsches major design items are the pronounced shoulders from the rear view. The Cayenne has them, the 911 definately has them and even the Panamera has them. Line up a bunch of Porsches and look at them from the rear and they all have similar design features.

sheikh36 02-26-2010 11:29 AM

I like the front it is more aggresive looking than the X-5....the rear is horrible...someone had said ..BAD-ASS...I would say not Bad ...HORRIBLE ASS....:)

RMak 02-26-2010 12:33 PM

Looks good! I'd take it! :driver:

blondboinsd 02-26-2010 01:48 PM

dirtdevilnc 02-26-2010 02:18 PM

Much better than the old one. Not sure exactly what about the old I dislike the least but definitely not a fan

julezw 02-26-2010 10:13 PM

I agree with some of the other folks....the pics on this thread look nice....but hop on over to the official site and see this thing in 360 degrees and the back of it and you could mistake it for a hyundai....not good.

Also in AUD prices the x5m is 100'g cheaper than the top of the line cayenne turbo s and the X comes with every option equipped while the Cayenne still has plenty of boxes to tick .....my personal opinion.....bit of a rip off.

From what I have found out, the Xs have more frequent visits to the dealer than cayennes but when you need to take you cayenne in better get your wallet ready.

LeMans, you know that VW doesn't look half as good as the Porsche. The VW looks like a rebadged 1999 Chevy Trailblazer.

In higher trim lines the Porsche looks great, IMO. I don't care for it in the basic trim lines at all, but then again I don't much care for the X5 in basic trim lines either.

You are comparing top end Cayenne to basic Touareg....here's a basic Cayenne ;)

http://www.porsche.com/microsite/cay...cayenne_01.jpg

FSETH 02-27-2010 11:49 AM

I know. I am not a fan of the lower level Cayennes. The Cayenne may look more like the old Touareg than the new one. This new one looks just like a Chevy Trailblazer to me. I absolutely hate the front. I guess you can say that the Porsche and VW look somewhat similar in base trims, but the top dog Cayennes look pretty damn sweet, IMO and look nothing like the Touareg.

You should patten that line.:stickpoke

Quicksilver 02-27-2010 04:52 PM

Sorry I couldn't resist.........:rofl::rofl:

patten |ˈpatn|

noun historical
a shoe or clog with a raised sole or set on an iron ring, worn to raise one's feet above wet or muddy ground when walking outdoors.
ORIGIN late Middle English : from Old French patin, perhaps from patte ‘paw.’

CarsRmyVICE 02-27-2010 07:29 PM

So a patten is some old school timberland boots  Anyways has anyone ever owned a cayenne. I am wondering what it would cost to maintain one of these throughout the duration of a 3 yr 45k lease? tires aside..

E61Silver 02-27-2010 07:44 PM

It is a lot like a patent, but only applies to car interiors.

If a AMC Gremlin had a nice interior, it still would not be a great car.

noncom23 02-28-2010 10:16 AM

Very hot SUV! Hard to resist.

delhite 02-28-2010 11:20 AM

whats up with the ugly taillights!? front could be more menacing too!

Brit6 02-28-2010 11:52 AM

Meh, i'll take a 04-06 Cayenne S or Turbo over that one anyday, maybe once these comes out i can get a better deal on one :D

Touareg V6 cost $5k in tires and had $30K in warranty repairs in 90K of ownership. About $8K out of pocket. Add porsche dealer markup and turbo nonsense.

Funnest piece of crap we've ever owned.

3x replacing the air suspension, several stepper motors, interior BS, new GPS, Headlights, Tires screwed up, and A/C died and had to be completely replaced at 75K. First Touareg in New England = STUPID, STUPID, STUPID.

Fabulous car though. Really. Had a crap ton of fun with it. But damn it was high maintenance.

That Pepper Turbo looks bad-ass. It's slick, it's fast, it's hot. But let's face it: we're on an X5 forum because we love the lines of the X5 more than any other SUV (WHETHER E53 or E70). And with the X5///M costing $40k less and essentially matching the current Turbo S in performance, it's pretty clear who the winner is...

jst2878 03-02-2010 11:33 AM

looks really nice in the turbo edition. they finally lowered that thing. i cant afford either turbo or x5m so im not biased on this one

Viper, nice try... but I'm not buying it. Perhaps a few similarities, but there's no mistaking one for the other. The Pepper has a much more aggressive rear stance. It has the huge quad tailpipes that the Hyundai clearly does not. And the wider tires. And the LED tails.

CarsRmyVICE 03-02-2010 11:19 PM

It is sad that allllllll cars and trucks are starting to look alike in some respects. With that said your grandmother wouldn't mistake that pepper turbo for a hyundai with her glasses off after two glasses of wine.:bustingup

TheGodfather 03-02-2010 11:42 PM

The tails look very Audi/Acura esque

Rear looks better than the e70

I also see two vehicles that are very different. One under $20K, one over $120K, yet I see too many asian styling cues in the taillights of the Pepper to view it as 'only Porsche'. I think that's important.

CarsRmyVICE 03-03-2010 08:04 PM

Asian styling cues is code for stolen designs from successful manufacturers. South Asian autos always rip off other people. I guess any rear end with LED's and a curve or two is Asian. Then again we r all bimmerphiles here so everyone's opinion is theirs and that's cool.
