Xoutpost chat thread!!

Bored at work? Taking a break from working on the X5? Up late? Let's chat! :)

Currently at work, waiting for some e-mails to get back. Pretty low stress day all in all.

I just shipped off the blower to supercharger heaven, for refreshing of seals and to swap out the impeller to a newer, more efficient design. Hope to pick up a few ponies there. At the same time, I'm replacing
the belt. An interesting thing about the supercharger belt, is that Dinan has a tolerance for the belt length from the manufacturer. Napa p/n 25-060594 (type K, 6-rib, 59.4” long) is the part, but it must measure between 1505mm and 1515mm long, and some of the Napa belts off the shelf don't meet the tolerance. If the belt is too short, it will be impossible to put on and the technician could bend the tensioner during the attempt. If the belt is too long, then the two opposing sides could touch each other (near the tensioner pulley) after the belt stretches with use. Dinan's re-badged Napa belt (D862-6324) is a belt that they've checked and know to be the proper length.

So, what's up with you all?

Tough crowd! :p

Interesting tidbit I found out today..... (7) 4.4i and (27) 4.6iS owners purchased a S/C kit from Dinan.

After inspecting this some more stuff in the engine bay, I'm finding out that a bunch of the kit's air intake/charge piping rubber couplers and pcv hoses are just worn out and will need to be replaced. After 105k miles/lots of heat cycles, I guess it's to be expected.

Is that the total number for Dinan s/c's sold total? As in ever?

well if no one will be your company i guess i will. Iv been shopping for a used car lately for my gf. Something of a small project car. She's favoring a white celica and i guess there's no harm in looking around for a car.:dunno: It could be fun working on the car with her, modding it out a little and taking it for some joy rides. Just a reliable car to and fro college classes in a more dangerous neighborhood of the city.

For the X5's, that's the word on the street. :)

I'm sure you've heard about the 850 TT? I had no idea such a thing existed until a few days ago. Apparently there's only 4 or 5 stage III cars in existence. wow!

Something like that? lol yeah i think its the head lights i dislike the most in that car. i found a couple with very low milage and cheap but... it just dont look right rofl:rofl: but i am waiting to test drive this white one, supposivly its in the shop because it was scratched. Honestly i think theres something up with it since the price droped 1k and i dun trust the dealer.. but carfax says no accidents(which just means it wasnt reported if there was).

the Top Gear show in UK showed a toyota mr2 made to look identical to a ferrari , it was so well done I think any kid would have been proud to drive around in it .
the bloke who customised it went into hiding from the ferrari lawers .

What qualities or functions is she looking for in a car?

After much convincing, I got my SO to stop looking at a few problematic Range Rovers and purchase a Toyota 4Runner.

Unfortunately, I am going to be working quite a bit on a project this weekend. The O/T will be good though.

A nice looking car that has about 50k Millage, comfort, reliability and safety. Shes driven my X5 b4 and tells me that all the other cars now feel kinda... crappy lol. But when she climbed into a 03 3 series she said that it felt like the X and felt really comfortable. I finding 03 models for about 10 to 13k around NYC to PENN with about 60 to 70k which isnt terrible. But i am thinking of keeping more options open but dont really no what to look for. Do you have any recommendations?

amacman 05-28-2010 07:23 PM

yep , I already knew of this French telecom engineer genius , quite awsome .
I`m sure there is a half size Ferrari similarly all made by one person .

She would prefer a car over a mid size SUV or truck then? I have heard that the few year old Toyota Highlander's are a great product in as far the preferences she has...

Are you looking to keep what you purchase for a while? I tend to drive a car until it is beyond economical repair, which means that I hang on to it for quite a long time.

It's amazing that we didn't hear of Ferrari hiring him on the spot. Had I been CEO, I'd have brought him in immediately.

I would love a 97 F355 Targa in Grigio Titanio with a Kreissieg exhaust. Someday....

I could listen to that until I go deaf.

She looking for a small car but the drive feel similar to the X's. and probably something that would last for at least 5 more years. And my X hasn't been through extreme maintenance yet but preferably something that isnt like the X's track record. She really likes the 00 to 03 3's but i am afraid about the maint on those. =/
