Ham Radio

Any radio heads here? Just getting started
and need input on a handheld
to get me started. Thx ahead!

Been one for about 20 years.
All my equipment is ICOM.
My handheld is an old 2GAT.
Base is an IC-735
My mobile rig was a IC-706 which was installed in my old car.
I have a 2006 X5 3rd. owner and I really don't want to install it so the radio and antenna tuner are in boxes waiting to be sold when I get around to listing them.

Thx. I ordered a Yaesu FT-60R.
Working on the license.
Appreciate the input.

I'm actually looking for a hand held with the
longest possible range that doesn't require
a base station or repeater.

Bought a Yaesu FT-60R. Await delivery. Back ordered.

Another radio head here too.

Kenwood TM-D700E in the car (VHF/UHF) with power turned down to 25W to keep emi under control. I use a dual band mag-mount antenna located on the rear of the roof so no holes drilled.

Yaesu FT-920 HF/VHF station at home.

Handhelds will always have a disadvantage on performance but a good vehicle antenna will help.

When I learned 25 years agom the maxim was 'to get as far as possible with as little as possible'. I still try to do it that way

Mine should be here tomorrow. Also considering a home station.
Suggestions?
