Sprint vs. Verizon

Been with Verizon for over 3 years - had good service (expect horrible customer service!).

Been thinking of what phone to get. Razr will be out in a week or so - that looks interesting. E815 is also nice.

SPRINT looks interesting. They have the Blade (Samsung a900) coming out in a week or two as well. Looks nicer than the Razr - and since my brother-in-law is a mgr for sprint, I can get a pretty good deal.

I am concerned about the coverage of sprint's network. Anyone have an expierience with Sprint over the past year or so - specifically in the NJ/DE/PA/NY region? Comments?

TIA

with sprint and im assuming with verizon, its all about the phone you get. the old samsungs used to have a big problem with reception, but since then, most of the phones have about the same reception capabilities. a buddy of mine lives in NJ and goes to NYU and says he hasnt dropped a call since he switched to sprint, he has a sanyo (known for great reception). at any rate, they do have a 14 day trial, try out a phone and see how it works out, if it doesnt, return it and they will refund you everything except i think a pro rated minute bill.

the blade is already out, just at select stores, it was launched on black friday. i have the a940 and the treo 650, both of which i am extremely happy with. YMMV, but use the trial for what its worth.

You can get the E815 or the LG VX8100 for free after rebate through Amazon.com if you want to keep Verizon. You can get the RAZR V3 free for Cingular or T-Mobile (Amazon.com or Buy.com). I don't have either of these phones so I can't recommend one vs. another. Good luck,

I'm a firm believer in picking the most reliable network in the area that i'll be making the most calls from and then picking the phone that I like the best.

Having the latest/greatest phone that doesn't work because the network blows is frustrating.

That being said, I've been on Verizon for the last 4 years and have had little to no coverage problems all over the U.S. as I traveled. (I'm in the NY/NJ/CT/LI area 90% of the time now).

I don't much car for verizon's phones or customer service, but I must say I have had great service everywhere I've gone. I live in the midwest, and I always have coverage driving through small towns and in the middle of no where, and when I'm out east I always have great service, even in the middle of the chesapeake bay.

That "can you hear me now?" guy from the Verizon ads is a douchebag, go with Sprint.

I tried Sprint 6700 and gave it back

I tried the new Sprint 6700 phone. It lacks a screen lock but had lots of features. The Sprint coverage was not as good as Verizon

It also did not pair well with the BMW Bluetooth system. The main problem was that the link would drop in the middle of the call.

My wife has a E815 from Verizon it works perfect in the BMW and has great service coverage.

The draw back to the E815 is that it use only the Vezion system and covergage in upstate NY is limited. The older phone 715? might be a better for remote areas.

I still am waiting for the new Treo 700, which I hope will pair with the BMW.
Does anyone know if the Treo will pair with the BMW?

i've never had Verizon service; even though, i'm an employee.
Verizon has the best coverage; however, u pay for it.
i have Nextel. i'm quite satisifed w/ it. i've never needed
service and not had it. the coverage may not be equal to
Verizon, but it's never let me down.

the 650 does, i dont see why the 700 wouldnt although its using wm5 so who knows

regarding the 6700, there is a screen lock, and with the new firmware update, bmw car kits are fully supported, just as the 650 is

Sprint licks my balls! I hate them and plan to change soon. I had them turn my phone off last week for what the automated system said was $3.01, that's right three dollars and a penny. I paid $10.00 to get it turned on and nothing happened. I logged in to their website that night and in one place it said I owed $141.00 in another it said $220.00!!!!!!!! I couldn't make sense of why they were different, but I paid the $141.00 and they turned it back on. I have lots of options and minutes on my phone and you'd think they would kiss my ass a little more. I really dispise them and if I can defer any potential customers away from them I would be pleased about it.

So, I assume that means you owed them $141.00?

Check with them to see if you have a spending limit on your account. If you do and you go over that pre-set limit, they will shut you down.

As far as I know I do not have a spending limit and but I do have a usage lmit. In the past if I've been close to the limit they have sent me a text message letting me know I at 80% usage for the month. My point is in the past 3 years I've been with them, I have been very unhappy with their customer service and my experiences with them.
