The Yawn the stopped the world from spinning

YouTube - Cornell Professor Outbursts at a Student's 'Overly Loud' Yawn - the yawn is one thing, but this guys reaction to it...really? After he started flexing his muscles about his good side vs his bad side, I would have had a hard time not laughing :nanana: at his borderline threat. "So, a KILOBYTE...."

Now that this guys reaction is on YouTube, I wonder if anything will come of it. Last I checked, those 220 students are paying his bills, so maybe he needs to add a little more passion and enthusiasm to his teachings instead of his reactions.

Hahah! i had this professor last year..

It didnt really come as a surprise to me, he has called out students in class before, just never this bad. He goes on and on about a thing called "digital permanence" (the notion that once it goes online, it will never go away) and how we need to be so careful about what we post. And he ended up posting a video of this lecture to our class folder online. wow.

anyway, its been a big deal around campus now.. on the news stations in the northeast too. Apparently he wasnt in class yesterday to give his lecture.. i somewhat feel bad for him, but then again, he may have crossed the line. I can take shit from professors because i know its no big deal, but if someone is really sensitive, this could really damage their self esteem. (side note, this is a class of freshmen)

My HR professor seems to think that he shoudl come out with a public apology and post it to youtube. Not really sure if that would help though...

Damn, I was hoping it was you Naz.:D

It could be him poking his head into the class....Naz did say he had him last year ;)

Jeeshh H Murphy,
If I had been just listening, and not watching the vid, or didn't know the background, I would have thought
it was a Jr High gym/health ed class teacher going off the deep end. What a putz...
And, I haven't seen that many ties in a classroom since the last group of Mormon missionaries got trained, :D.

hahah! well its coming out a cornell professor. yes i pay 55k a year for this  it may explain why i do not particularly enjoy this school as much as i should..

as for the ties.. its called "hotelie friday" all the freshmen are enrolled in a lecture series where they have professionals come in to give lectures (people like CEO of Starwood, Kraft, etc).

nevermind the kid who asked one of our guest lecturers (the CEO of buffalo wild wings) how she ensures that all the chicken are humanely killed, etc. ohh cornell, why must you be full of "geniuses"

m5james 11-17-2010 11:00 PM

Humanely killed?! Of all the stupid questions to ask. My GF is in Abu Dhabi right now at a hotel, and these places have NO shame in what they do to the animals. She told me about the lambs being tied outside to the tree...I told her to get pet them since she thinks they're so cute, but she gave me a sad face and said she was afraid she'd become attatched. Once at the mall, she saw them carrying in the dead pigs over their shoulders.

The professor sounds to be very ineffective and is pretty insecure.

Naz24 11-18-2010 04:43 PM

part of me says that the student was completely wrong and rude by yawning loudly in class. but then again the response was uncalled for.

I wonder if the student really has been yawning alot haha

X5rolls 11-19-2010 01:59 PM

What if the student didn't know they were going to be loud when they yawned and it just came out that way. It's possible but that professor wasn't going to cut any slack even if it was. Guess there is no way to tell.

Naz24 11-19-2010 02:15 PM

i'm curious to find out what happened in his lecture today (this large lecture is only once a week, with smaller ones during the week on different topics)

i'm gonna have to find a freshman and ask, i'll get back to you guys.. i'm guessing some sort of an apology?
