Wow! These two guys make the cello look cool...

Stjepan Hauser and Luka Sulic playing Smooth Criminal by Michael Jackson.

I always thought of the cello as a cool instrument...perhaps not always the player.

The violin, cello, viola, and stand up bass are all string instruments i admire more than others...perhaps due to the fact that it's a bit more challenging to progress unless one really dedicates time to master the feel. With a guitar or bass, it was much easier for me due to a single reason...fretboards :D

They are pretty damn good!

I still like the originals for abusing their cellos though!

And I loved watching this last one live, especially from about 3 minutes in.

Also, loved this video when I first saw it! I've always liked progressive/fusion music when metal is mixed with other forms of music.

Yeah, Apocalyptica has done a number of good tracks with cellos. Bittersweet and Drive are probably my favorites.

The "Hot Violin Girls System of a Down" girls were quite a sensation though. I agree that the fusion of music can make it more interesting.

The girl drumming has the usual youtube channel, facebook etc. and does covers of lots of songs, very well I might add. And she has a cool name for what she's doing, Meytal.

And if you like fusion metal, you HAVE to check out a band called Aghora, especially their album Formless. If is Jazz/metal fusion with a beautiful Egyptian girl singing who previously did classical opera. Every single member of the band is amazing... just the guitarist makes you think of Joe Satriani but a bit heavier, and the bassist and drummer are equally as amazing. A few videos on youtube worth checking out.
