Valentine V1 .....after 2 weeks of using it....
I owned a Passport X50 for 4 years. Loved it. Saved from more than a handful of tickets. When I bought my X5, I thought of it as a chance to switch to the V1, mainly because of the directional arrows. I would have to hardwire a RD once again, so I figured it was a good time to switch. I must say that I have been very pleased. The range on it seems to be slightly better than the X50. I went through and programmed my V1 to my custom settings. The arrows have been awesome. This was the main reason I wanted to give this RD a shot. Not only do I get a warning now, but I know what direction it is coming from ! All in all, it has been a great couple of weeks. My only negative is the pre-historic design of th darn thing. Looks horrible to the naked eye. I really wish they would update their look. But besides that, I'm a happy customer !

I have two V1, both close to 10 years now, one was upgraded through the factory program once. I've used one in the US, and 4 other countries, including Russia - excellent device. The box does look archaic, but it does the job it was designed to do, and does it rather well... There was an incident when I was driving with V1 and a friend of mine driving with something else - my V1 went off good 10 seconds before his detector went off, saving us from some serious trouble...
It is like an American Express, never leave home without one... lol.. :) |
+1 For the V1. I love mine I can not drive with out it. I am constantly switching between the M5 and the X5. I hard wired both. But I think I am going to need to just buy another one. For my wife.

V1 website has story of the month section - my story is there for August of 2004... :) I was contemplating Stealth One, and just recently saw a Software One that can interface the V1 into your CarPC. I don't have carpc but seriously contemplating getting one, thus eliminating the need for MP3 player, TV analogue or digital, and whole bunch of other things... If I ever get to that point of installing one, i will share the knowledge...How our little brethren say - Happy Motoring...:))

I have an escort 9500, love it. Good RD's are mandatory, once you have one its like leaving the house naked without one. Was aware the v1 may have been better (functionally) prior to buying but I felt it was an eyesore :dunno: Why don't they redesign the box? O well no big deal

So is it just a "heads up" that there is a speed trap.... Or does it fubar the cops radar and gives him and "error" message, so he has no clue how fast you were going?

+1 on the positive comments. Hugely effective and I use almost all the time in Virginia, where there are few road speed sensors and many, many police crossovers and traps. Saved me 4 times over the July 4th weekend alone.
In NC I often leave it off because everyone seems to be speeding anyways and the state troopers simply just aren't around or don't give a crap about going 5 over the limit. The K-band speed sensors throw false alerts frequently and give me a heart attack everytime I pass one. |
