For me, it's all about principle with these stealers. That's just the Chinese side of me talking. Then again, the Jewish side doesn't help the matter much either.

On a different note, were you able to listen to the Logic7 system in your car? How does it compare to the premium sound in the X5?

Because the original seal is being broken, then resealed. When you do that, you never get as good a seal as the original. It'll make contact with the glass over 95% of the area that the original factory job did, 95% as good as the original seal in other words.

I agree with Drex that there's a standard here that dealership is not living up to, but personally, I'd take the cash (none of that discount stuff, write me a damn check!) and live with it.

Pete, can they buff it out as opposed to replacing the windshield??

I'd wait... drex is right: There are/were some QA problems with this car. And, again, as drex mentioned, this is NOT a cheap car. Heck, even if it were, you have every right to expect a fooking perfect car! If it were a small dent, or something like that, it'd be different... but windshields... man, those are notoriously a pain in the ass to seal properly...

I beg to differ JV, the seal on the original windshield on my E46 M3 was actually pretty bad. The replacement windshield after I cracked it was so much better. It's really not that difficult of a task. I was there when they replaced the windshield and the guys at my dealership did an awesome job.

I am quoting directly from the mouth of an auto glass repairer/installer with 25 years experience who fixed a chip in my windshield and replaced the windshield in a previous car I owned. Both vehicles were less than 4 years old when he did the work, maybe he was referring to newer models, but he explained it to me exactly that way. :dunno:

JV, they thought about buffing out the scratch (the deeper one), but as the sales manager explained to me, it would create a dip in the area where the glass is buffed and it would cause undesirabe visual distortions. Plus, there are many smaller scratches across the windshield so I don't think I'd happy living day in day out without it being replaced.

I listened to it once when they let me borrow their 650i demo for a weekend. It was really good, much better than the DSP in our X5's. However, since the audio system in our BMW's are tuned to generate more bass than treble, I had to turn down the bass and turned up the treble to get some decent tones. I especially like the Theater mode in the Logic7 where the vocal is directed toward the front channel speaker.

That's cool. I remember reading a lot about it when I had the chip in my windshield and a year before when my Maxima had the huge crack in the glass. Seems that if the vendor is a glass repair tech, they'll recommend not breaking the seal, if they don't do repairs and only do replacements, they'll say it's cool to break the factory seal. 6 in one hand...the 650 will be warrantied, so you'll be fine.
