Speaking of VW's How about a 2012 Beetle

The diesel is rated at 29 m.p.g. in urban driving and 40 m.p.g. on the highway.

I hear that the new Jetta is lacking wonder if the beetle will be better.

I still think the Jetta Sports Wagon is the best VW diesel.

Question: WHY DOES VW INSIST ON USING THAT ANCIENT 5-cyl PETROL? (In North America)

One of the funnest cars I ever drove was the Beetle Turbo S. My dad bought one and I got to spend a summer driving it and it was a real pleasure. The gearbox and handling felt like they belonged in a Porsche.

The petrol five may be ancient but the diesel on offer is also far from cutting edge.

That's my guess too. Europeans would never accept an engine that coarse and thirsty. Thats why they get the DI 1,4 litre 4-cylinder.
