Good to Drive our Old X, Again...

We migrated back to our Mtn Joint the other day, and our '01 X5 had been asleep in our garage for the past 5 months.
This morning, I unplug the Battery Tender, let some air out of the tires, check under hood and all around for any mice camping out,
and check the oil & coolant.

I get in, turn the key, listen to the computer hum up, and it starts first turn, as usual, as if I had parked it a day ago.

I roll down the Mtn to hit the dentist, run some errands, load 8 bags of mulch and 2 1/2 gal of chain saw mix into the trunk, roll home up the Mtn, from town...

It is just like an old comfortable sneaker, yet it runs so well for nearly 10 years old and 80k miles, that it is remarkable, imo.
And, it put a smile on my face!

Nice to hear, mD! Welcome back to H-B-H, I bet the locals are glad to see you again.

28k on my 04 (Oct'03) and hasn't been driven in a week and a half, still on the original battery.

Great to hear that the old Xis still running strong.

How are you liking the new appliance/suv?

motordavid 04-25-2011 01:09 PM

Haigha/P...yes, very good to be 'home'.
1st round tomorrow, on our local club track, Laurel Ridge CC; curious to see if all my playing in FL can translate to our mtn course. HDCP is 13.4...

Silver/Blue: the '01 Hyundai Tuck is ok. TheCEO loves it, I am less ecstatic.
The 10 yr old E53 is still light years ahead of it, minus the gizmos the Tucson has.

Glad to hear you're back in the mtns, mD!

KYZRSOSE 04-25-2011 04:31 PM

Soooo....whats the best score you posted in the sunshine state???

Naz24 04-25-2011 04:46 PM

nice to hear that youre back into the X. I'm sure you'll miss drivin the vette around naples for the next couple months though.

motordavid 04-25-2011 04:52 PM

K/B: 79 this season, 78 was my best there, a couple years ago.
My best at our Mtn track is 80, with several 81s, but a much tougher course.

Naz: driving anything around Naples or, SW FL, is very little fun: flatazz, boring, crowded, 7 mins of redlights at every intersection, ol'geezers that can't drive, etc.
The Vette, (or the m'cycles), is the balls back here on the 2 lane blacktops, in the mtns!

I guess the mountains missed all that bad weather about a week ago?

Wow, 7.5+ years on one battery. Impressive. 6.2 and mine is done.

Our spread out 'neighbors' said we had a big blow, as in 75+mph on a neighbor's anemometer, but the 'nadoes were way east of us, as in
Raleigh-Durham area, (5+ hrs east).

We must have had our share of wind/snow this past winter season, as our 3+ acre steep 'yard' here in the Mtn woods, looks like the depository for every stick, limb, branch and a half dozen blown down trees. :yikes:

Up here, every day varies from fabulous to WTF?!, compared to 'down below'. We had hail this afternoon, that covered the ground; it was sunny down in our little town.

Thanks, Meister!
Long time no read; you gotta work slightly less. ;)

Yeah, fingers crossed that it'll make it to 8. I know mD would say it's unwise but I'm being like Kramer in that episode where he drives and drives to see how long he can go without running out of gas...
