Car stereo question
I just picked up an old e34 that was in excellent condition. The girl I bought it from said there is a 10 disc changer hooked up in trunk as well, but doesnt work because it needs an "FM Modulator"..??
Ive had plenty of cars with changers in the trunk and Ive never heard of this...Its just one long cord that goes to the thing from the head unit..Does anyone have any idea what shes talkin' about? BTW, she is right about the "not working" part... |
Yes, I had one of these installed in my boat. The head unit didn't support CD changer controls, so I installed one using a wired FM Modulator (wired into the antenna connection). You just had to tune the radio to a pre-set station and the CD changer would play across the radio.
Very common quite a few years ago when CD changers first came out. |
I had two of them, both Pioneer, purchased in 1997. Neither car had a head unit that supported a changer (a Subaru Legacy, and an Expedition). They worked very well, since we lived in a remote area with very few FM stations and there was no interference. Not sure how well they would have worked in a metropolitan area.
