X6 on 10 Most Disappointing 2011 Car list

Like this means anything--just thought it was interesting that they put the X6 on it. I don't think BMW intended to sell anything close to any as many X5s when they introduced the X6--it's a niche car and is not a high-production car.

what a lame article about it. they said that they only sold 15xx of them.. yes youre right, a niche market..

i'm in greece right now, and i have seen a BUNCH of X6s. I personally would be driving one if i had the cash

I could have put it on that list as soon as I saw a photo of it.:dunno::stickpoke

Didn't they consider that most cars built in Spartanburg are exported? Like near 75%? US sales are a teeny tiny slice of the pie. The X6 is hot in China and Russia.

They even have Maybach on that list... why would they expect a $400,000 car to sell in record numbers???

Viperfreak2 06-06-2011 08:14 AM

I think they were trying to compare some cars against the competition. The Maybach is a complete failure against the Rolls Phantom. They are right that people could see through that it's just a very nice S-class, while the Rolls has 7 series parts underneath, they are so well hiddden that very few can tell. Look at the IPs on both cars.
The X6 seems to be doing well against its' less expensive competition: It is outselling the ZDX by 50%.

+1. Dealers around here just can't move that ugly beast. Probably just as popular as the 5er GT.

It would be nice if BMW would get the message about the GT. It is fugly. I say this as a person who typically likes fugly cars. I would rather drive an M5 touring (at least a higher powered RWD wagon) than an X5M, but evidently I am in the minority on this side of the pond.

Not a good article at all. It completely fails to point out that the X6 sales have far exceeded BMW's expectations year after year. It was never intended to be anything but a niche market vehicle - another point missed. The X6 is selling well in Europe too, but then we have the Diesel versions which give all the power but without the fuel bills. It's a lot easier to swallow 35mpg (Imperial) than 20.

I didn't buy an X6 because I wanted a car that everyone else has, I wanted something that was different. The 5GT is too expensive (in the UK) once specced up compared to what else is out there, and the X6 is cheaper, more practical and handles beautifully - especially with the 40d powerplant.

I already have an E53 and the E70 is too big and I don't like the styling, and don't need 7 seats. 4 is just fine.
