Drive Safe this July 4th weekend.

To y'all that are driving this holiday weekend, take it easy and safe. That didn't get off to a very good start my area.....

3 die in wreck; westbound I-40 closed near 15-501 in Durham - Traffic - NewsObserver.com

Looking at the (awful) pictures in the Gallery, you'll notice that "front" of the tractor trailer is actually the compacted pickup truck which was crushed by the semi :wow:. I-40 was closed for the better part of the afternoon and evening and continues to be shut down for accident reconstruction.

Same out here in Arizona. Bad accident yesterday and again today. :wow:

Yesterday:
Arizona crashes kill 3, close part of Interstate 10 west of Phoenix

Today:
Phoenix tanker crash closes Interstate 17 in both directions

We seldom if ever drive for vacations on Holidays.
To many people, to much traffic, not a lot of fun imo.

Leaving from Fort Lauderdale to Eastern Shore of Maryland at 2am tomorrow morning to deliver kids and wife to her families farm for the summer in "the van".....1,128 miles, eyes open, lights on and fingers crossed and we're there tomorrow night.....my annual sumer commute - typically do it alone, but budget restraints and last minute business trip have me doing it over the holiday weekend with all onboard.

Turns out the truck driver was on drugs..... :wtf:

And if driving through Virginia, obey all posted speed limits. Last year, VA State police issued over 14.000 citations over the three-day holiday weekend (14.764 to be precise).

Grabbing gears, hauling azz, sightseeing and, dodging the idiots out here in America.
8,500+ miles of traveling offers one the opportunity to view some 'quality' driving, lol!
Happy Independence Day Weekend...

Traffic-related deaths double in VA over Holiday

Geez is this the trend of driving thesedays? More tickets, safer cars, yet plenty of unwise decisions.

Quote:

During the holiday statistical counting period which began at 12:01 a.m. Friday (July 1) and ended midnight Monday (July 4), 13 people were killed in 11 traffic crashes. The fatal crashes occurred in the City of Portsmouth and the counties of Accomack, Albemarle, Alleghany, Campbell, Chesterfield, Fairfax, Henrico and Prince Edward. Both Alleghany and Henrico counties had two separate fatal crashes.

Of the 11 fatal crashes, at least four were alcohol-related. At least five of the crash victims were not wearing seat belts. The Albemarle County crash claimed the life of a Crozet man who was riding a motorcycle.

During the holiday weekend, Virginia State Police participated in the annual nationwide, state-sponsored traffic safety initiative Operation Combined Accident Reduction Effort, known as Operation C.A.R.E. State troopers stopped 10,462 speeders and another 2,805 reckless drivers during the four-day statistical counting period. State police also took 117 impaired drivers off Virginia's highways. Troopers cited 866 individuals for failing to buckle up and 343 adults for failing to having to have their children properly secured in a child safety restraint.
If y'all were on the roads in VA, you probably noticed the speed enforcement. When I drove a 110km (70mi) stretch of US 360 from South Boston to Amelia, there were 6 speed traps, 3 for each direction. I don't expect any of y'all to know where that is, but seriously they ought to focus on the interstates where the bad drivers are and lay off the safer rural divided-highways . I wonder what other state managed over 14.000 citations in a 3-day period. (That's like, 202 an hour!)
