My friend just showed me this...

I personally think it's extremely terrible. We have people out there right now who can barely pay for food, and then these clowns are destroying a 350k car for a music video. How could they feel good about this? These guys should be using that money to do philanthropic work in their old "hoods"... I'm sick of these dumb rappers.. What kind of message are they portraying. It's basically showing that you shouldn't respect nice things and basically rubbing how much money they have in other people's faces. I personally would love to smack both of them in the face for putting something out that is on such poor taste.

Didn't he buy the Maybach for his son a while back?

It says they will auction off the car for charity.

Either way - you could apply the same judgement to the people on this board, buying X5s and such.

The fact of the matter is, as long as wealthy people are spending money, it flows into the hands of the people around them, and keeps the economy going. The worst thing they could do is hoard their wealth.

Well I agree with that logic. I am a conservative and believe that we can do whatever we want with our wealth. However, this is rubbing it in the face of other people. I just don't agree with it

Naz the vehicle is being auction off and the proceeds will go to the charity.

Yii, that is Aziz. He's just chilling in a video.

My sister works for Roc-A-Fella/RocNation, the two companies owned by Jay-Z, she's in marketing and promotion and I will have to defend the guy on the mere fact of what I know of how giving he is. You can disagree with the genre of music he represents and the boasting that goes around with the amount of money the guy has, but come on, lets stop all the b/s. If YOU were a millionaire, you mean to tell me you'd be all hush hush about it. How many artist throw benefit concerts and donate all the proceeds to 9/11 NYPD/FDNY widows and Children Benefit Funds? Most would say, "strategic move to boost sales". True, but he did not have to donate 100% of the proceeds. Most would say "Tax write off". True, but he still did not have to donate 100% of the proceeds. The man teamed up with Nike and designed shoes to be auction off to charities (Shawn Carter Scholarship Foundation). I happen to own an autographed pair (thanks sis) that I am going to auction off and put it towards my sons 529. So before we judge the guy for the genre of music he represents, let's google the guy and read about all the good shit he does.

Well said  He is an extremely shrewd businessman but also very generous. I can't stand Kanye West however, but that's a whole 'nother thread!

Naz24 08-15-2011 07:02 PM

read this guys explanation of why the car is now useless. even if it is auctioned off..

Jay-Z And Kanye West's 'Otis' Maybach Work: How Much Did It Cost? - Music, Celebrity, Artist News | MTV

who is gonna buy a car that they cant drive for hundreds of thousands..?

indianapolisX5 08-15-2011 09:01 PM

$100,000?

the boys at the Top Gear Technology Centre could have gotten it done for a fiver!

certainly didn't mean for this to turn into an economic or moral debate. I'm sure these two allocate some of their wealth in the way of philanthropy, so what's the harm in also having a little fun?

yeah i see your point about how they give their wealth, thats good.

however, most people do not know about their philanthropy. and this just looks bad from the surface...

Other millionaires/billionaires that would want the car for a showroom or a museum. I'm sure many would bid on the vehicle just for the mere fact that Jay-Z was involved in the process of the transformation.

When it comes to marketing a product (whether he's an official spokesman or not), Jay-Z is like E.F. Hutton... everyone listens! He may have just rescued a dying brand in Maybach with this stunt.
