Welcome to California earthquakes you East-coasters

This was a far cry from what we get in the Golden State
It would hardly be felt from one end of the State to the other.
Never the less we hope ya"ll are OK.

Yeah i was watching tv when this happened was my 2nd earthquake in NY state. First was actually upstate in the Adirondack mountains which i thought was worse. But down here in the city i guess ppl really get paranoid with it. =/ i dunno if most ppl know but... Manhattan is actually on a fault line (non active i suppose but.. you never know).

Hope everyone is OK.

This reminded me of a shot from my BB that I still have around. It was from November 14 2007, as we arrived at the Radisson Hotel in Antofagasta Chile. We had lived in Antofagasta previously, but were back visiting. We were two blocks away when the roof fell. Traffic lights were dancing. We pulled up before the emergency crews, both taxi drivers were OK. That one was a 7.7. They checked us in, sent us to our rooms (elevators were out), and the aftershocks started 15 minutes later. A 5.8 isn't too bad by comparison.

Still for east coast folks this had to be a wake up call.

wow 0.o def thats intense that a quake 200 miles away from me could be felt and continued to Ontario

They say the shakes carried so far on the east coast due to the harder ground composition... so it traveled pretty far compared to the west coast. Glad I never have to deal with that down here in hurricane central, a good shake like that and all our houses would disappear into the ground down here haha!

I've always wanted to feel a quake! Was driving the X5 back to my office when it happened, and missed it entirely. Thought people at the office were fucking with me, "Hey bro did you feel the quake?" I look at them like, "are you high?"

Guess wife and I will have to settle with the hurricane as a consolation prize. What really made things complicated was that from last week until a few minutes ago, I was scheduled to fly out from ORF tomorrow and head to the Republic of Georgia / Russia area for a little bit. So I had to deal with Hurricane prep for worried wife and travel/work. Just now got a cancellation notice from the airline. Monday maybe. At least now, if we suffer losses due to Irene, I can get the insurance ball rolling before I head out into the foreign wilderness.

Cars are tucked in the garage, wife and I are taking 4Runner over to my buddy's house, and strapping the X on the dyno in his shop. Maybe we could make a pull.... I mean, since it'll be strapped down and all. Maybe X5 and dyno will fly away together in the hurricane, and land on top of an X5M in a random BMW dealership miles away. Who's king now! :p

brb... strapping down trash cans and what not to the patio fence.

edit: holy crap JCL, glad y'all missed that collapse!

edit2: Hurricane prep item of the year, Brita water bottle! Just bring water to a boil, let cool, then pour in. This thing would have been awesome to have in Boy Scouts. It should come in handy this weekend and also while over in Mother Russia.

is it weird that i'm actually disappointed that i cant experience this hurricane because i'm now in upstate NY?

i was seriously considering taking the X for a ride down to my house on the jerz shore to see this baby in action. Then i realized that i have to drive back next weekend for labor day. hm....I'll just get a buddy at home to set up skype pointed at the shore

in other news, i think this is the first time that Ithaca will actually have better weather than the rest of the east coast... which is all so sobering when you realize that every single female at this school either has 24/7 pms, or is extremely unfortunate looking.

Here are some shots from move in day--junior year edition
