lol.... both good points, though i wish someone at some point would have the guts to make those lists and enforce some of those points...
why are we the deep pocket? most nations would love to see us fall... in fact, we, and maybe canada, are probably the only two nations who have NEVER been under the rule of any other nation, country or power EVER. thoughts to ponder............ |
I'm glad we can all discuss this and nobody has started to cry yet, says something positive about this board!
It is rather remarkable though that if you look at the LONG list of countries getting US monetary aid, how few of them actually like US policies. Of course, aside from cashing in the checks. Another fun item to look at is the long list of countries that simply didn't pay back the United States following WWII. I think the e-mail showed the other hardline of opinion, what we need is a balance which would probably best be suited by a Foreign policy that didn't come and go with every administration. Few people know that Madeline Albright had a deal on the table with NK on removing its Nuclear weapons program, but when the next administration walked in..they through the deal out. If you want to turn public opinion of the US around, start with a solid foreign policy. IMO. |

I can't believe I read to this point in the thread and there hasn't been one ignorant cuss filled post on this touchy issue! That shows a lot about the X5world community.
I think the issues that cause this type of response (the author's) are mostly valid. What I disagree with is the response itself. It's true that some countries bites the hands that feeds them. But like the abused stray at the pound (merely to continue the analogy, not to liken them to dogs) you have to put their reaction into the context of what they've gone through. It doesn't justify the biting but it helps us get over it. The lists of countries bit is totally irrational. I agree, you can't just gloss over the fact that many countries didn't stand by the American government on Iraq. But many Americans didn't stand by the American government either. Should they be put on a list as well? Perhaps they should be denied all the benefits of American citizenship? Perhaps they should be all shipped off to another country? Ridiculous isn't it? The fundamental idea of a democracy is to allow others to have and voice a differing opinion. It's a childish reaction to say "your not my friend because you don't agree with me". |
Except for the Canada thing (they ARE indeed our friends and allies), I say, "go for it!"
Loved it! Juan |
lol scottie --- i've never seen a scottsman be proud to be part of the UK! (braveheart, anyone anyone?)?

I am the son of a first generation immigrant family in America. My family moved to this country because of the opportunity that existed in the name of American style democracy and capitalism. We have all done very well for ourselves through education, perseverance and hard work. When I see Americans like myself I see decent people who are working to survive just like anyone else who lives in any industrialized nation. I agree with you that none of us deserves to be targets of terrorism. I strongly disagree with you that we as people of this country or any other "have contributed to this situation" as you stated it. You actually believe that because we are prosporous as a nation and our policies don't benefit everyone in the world, that we should accept some responsibility for being targets of terrorist attack? Sounds like you're justifying terrorist actions and implying that we should feel guilty for pissing them off and accept our punishment. I want you to tell that to someone who lost relatives or friends at the WTC and see what kind of reaction you get. Parker, we did not bring this on ourselves nor should we explore the possibility the we contributed to the situation in any way. No matter what our foreign policies are like events like what happened on Sep 11th are never justified no matter what the reason. They killed innocent people who had nothing to do with their plight or political standing. My conscience is at peace. Mark |
