Paging MD!
MD,
First I need to let you know its going to be freezing rain and sleet for our weather forecast tomorrow. Would you like to come up and experience it?   Second...whats up with that TV? If it's another there in another week....I'd raise hell! |
We have not heard from him in a couple of days, which leads me to believe:
1. Golfing with the ol' retired folks suddenly got interesting, or 2. He's tanning, OR 3. He's enjoying his brand new HD TV. :D Juan |
I am hoping all of the above Juan! :) Man I wish I was there. Sleet and Freezing Rain tomorrow for the commute. Oh what fun! :tsk:

Yo CF/JK...
The Sony, No Baloney TV arrived this afternoon; not however, from the idiots at US1Camera in Brooklyn. I'll skip the arm wrestle details, but they really fooked me over, though I had bought camera stuff, successfully, from them in past. That orig order, of Nov freaking 29th, I cancelled Wednesday, and put the "dispute" into my MC situ, so that's cool, I hope. Plan B was to hump one up here, around the foo-foo overpriced burg of Naples, FLA: I shopped really hard and checked out Everyone that had one, locally. My thought was/is, if it sucks or doesn't work...well, I won't be shipping it back to my Sid buds in Willamsburg,NY. (Put your jackets back on: I have a dozen very good Hassidic friends; no slur in that remark.) NEway, back on track, I found it in lotsa places around here. But, CC had it on a "slight" sale for 4500...I rolled in, bargained at length with the TV dept Mgr, and walked out with a firm order yesterday for the unit, delivered inside with simple "set up/hook up" for 4200, tax, tags and license, delivered, as they say. I don't normally arm wrestle a retail store, but I figured what the hell: they were offering 0% interest for 12 months, blah blah blah...I figured $4+Gs in their till that eve is better than having to repo it from GatorGeorge in a few months, :p . And, it got delivered today, the next day after "buying it"! It is Titz! I have barely cracked the 100 ppg book on it, but it runs well. The few HDTV channels that our local idiot Comcast offers are fooking amazing; the non-HD is v. good, but needs some tweaking and the channel to channel diffs range from v. good to sucks. The TV allows one to see "too much"; thus, the crummy feeds from some non-HD channels look like 1962 rabbit ears tv. All in all, I am happy, CC gives a 30 day no questions return on same set, etc. I have been pouring over the 60" SXRD Owners segment on AVS forum, but most of their tweaking and settings adjustments are beyond my low tech mind. Glad we got it and glad I pulled the plug on the other deal. ...I did play my first full round yesterday with our GeezerMens'sLeague here; it is not my Ol'Gang back on the mtn, but it will be fine; shot an 88 on a course I've seen 4 times. Right in the zip code with my 4th yr 13.9 Index. TheCEO & I are playing in a hubby-wife couples deal on Sunday which gives us a day off from freaking shopping and, especially, spending money like I just hit the jackpot. I am about broke, budget-wise and we have some more road to cover in this new, 2nd house. I've rattled on here way too long, but Ya'll asked. :D Sony, No Baloney...it is TitZ! BR,md Live'[email protected] PS: I check the 28786 weather every morning and deduct 10+ degrees for our mtn elevation, and just smile...our "crummy" weather here in Naples has been endless days of 48-60 at night and 70-77 daytime. This can get boring, :bustingup |
Congrats, David!!!
Post some pics! Juan |

The Tube is titz, but maybe too big for this little house/viewing area we are in. And, Very complex, in terms of settings, hook-ups, etc. One HDMI cable costs more than my first real stereo, circa 1965, lol. Thanks, JK. BR,md |
Congrats! lets see some pics.

Welcome to Florida!!!
Glad to have, bro'. This is the time of year to be here, that's for sure.
Welcome aboard! :beerchug: |

MD!
Congrats my friend! :D Welcome to the world of HDTV. I still have not jumped on the bandwagon yet, but I'm sure that time will come! MD, what Cable Box did Comcast give you? Try and get the model # off the unit. There are some settings you should put into the Cable Box that will give you a better picture on the standard definition channels. Chris |

Lil'light in front lights up with time, channel # and it also reads: HD/1080. I use "its" flipper to change channels and adj vol. * * * * * * * "Congrats David, I'm glad to see that you got your TV one way or another :D . Now, do you have a 1080i unconverting DVD player? If not, it will indeed give you a better picture when watching DVD's." from SuperGreg... SG: I didn't kill myself hunting up a DVD player...I had heard good stuff about the Panasonic 97S, but no one had one around here, handy. So, I settled for a Samsung HD850: has 1080 capability, upconverts, plugged in via HDMI cable, etc. For the dozen times per year we watch a DVD, it wil suffice, I think. A buck 29 vs the 280 for the Panny. I'm buring through the fooking dough. I may have to get V to unretire, :D . I have boring house pics, posted back in Oct., but I'll toss some up again, later today. It is truly a Seasonal Starter Shack. And, I gotta find a new Canon camera to 'Puter cable to upload any new pics I take here. The TV pic is ok to v. good on the non-HD stations; I know it will require some adjustment and maybe a visit by a high tech TV adjuster guy. Any opins are welcome, but less is more, adj-wise, as yours truly is not exactly a former EE, or techie, :bustingup BR, OlUncMtr |

And don't forget those Monster cables....expensive but must have for HD.
|
MD, try this on your box....
------------------------------------------ First, you have to do the advanced set up on the 8300, specifying all the resolutions that the SXRD can handle (which are all of them). Then, you have to go into the 'second settings' menu to enable pass through (i.e., hit settings button twice to be taken to the advanced settings screen (not sure that is the name but you get there by hitting the settings button twice; first is only a quick settings screen)). Set to pass through. Then make sure the 8300 isn't "zooming" the picture either...every now and then my kids must hit the wrong buttons on the remote and cause this to happen, making the picture noticeably off (i actually watched a whole movie one night, gremlins, thinking they just did a lousy job on the source, but in reality the 8300 was zooming the picture ) |
Congrats on the new TV MD. I bought my TV (Sony 42XBR950) from US1Camera a couple of years back and had absolutely no issues. Sorry to hear about your troubles with the order. I'm sure MC will straighten it out.

CF: thanks for the "Box Adjust" tips...I think! Lol!
I'm gonna print out your post and give it a trial fly this eve with your instructions and DVR/HD box flipper in hand. Whew! Breyton: I did get the Monster cable HDMI, 4 footer. Cost more than my first dirt bike, circa 1963, lol! RXD85: I too, had had go luck w/USI Cam previously...this time it just didn't smell right from initial order and went downhill to "Mike" from there, screaming at me when I called daily to inquire why the fooking order had not shipped in 2+ weeks. I suggested he get a real job, like in a freakin MickeyD's and quit BSing his customers. NEway, I need an Xpert to drop in and fine tune my set...and, I gotta hunt up a receiver and speakers so I can run TV sound outside on Lanai and also be able to listen to some classical music to soothe my stressed out brain from all this money spending Consumption, ;>( BR,md |
