iPhone to get 4.6-inch Retina Display, report says | Nanotech - The Circuits Blog - CNET News

That could be perfectly timed with my upgrade credit from my iPhone 4. :D Call me crazy but I kind of like the size of the iPhone 4/4S. The bigger displays just create a larger phone to lug around.

Never mind that all the in car cradles will need changing again if it's got a larger 'footprint'.

Agreed. Hold your iPhone in one hand. How far does your thumb reach? The opposite corner of the screen. It was designed that way - so the entire surface can be accessed by and operated with one hand. Would be surprised if they go bigger. Current form factor is perfect and design is beautiful. Apple doesn't compromise on design or function - all about simplicity. Want a bigger screen? - get an iPad.

Dr_Smith 03-23-2012 08:45 PM

my brother has a galaxy note and that thing is just huge. I can't imagine trying to talk on it. Also it's battery life is around 3 hours - yuck!

My guess is Apple will have next iPhone either in two form factors or the screen size will be just a tad bigger.

Another CGI rendering of iPhone 5. I definitely expect Liquidmetal acquisition to be reflected in new iPhone. Current unofficial estimates point to late August or September release. In the meantime, Samsung Galaxy III and new Nokia Lumia are offering stiff competition.

http://resources0.news.com.au/images...60-iphone5.jpg

THE iPhone 5 is set to trump Samsung's latest version of its most popular smartphone, if speculation about the new Apple phone is correct.

While not released or endorsed by Apple, this artist's impression is based on rumored changes to the current model iPhone 4S, including a dazzling 10.1cm screen (up from 8.8cm) and a body 20 per cent more slender.

Independent tech website iLounge, which has a track record of publishing reliable information about upcoming product launches, has said it is due out in the Australian spring. .

The iPhone 5, which is said to be thinner and longer than its predecessor could well be the gadget of 2012.

Samsung had hoped to steal Apple's thunder following the release earlier this month of its Galaxy S III.

Its predecessor, the Galaxy S II, was the world's second-most popular smartphone behind the iPhone.

The Galaxy S III has a lot going for it.

Like the iPhone 4S, which has Siri, it has voice recognition technology which allows its owner to tell it to do such things as answer or reject an incoming call, change the volume settings, and even take a photo.

The Galaxy S III also has features including Smart Stay which tracks eye movement to keep the screen on whenever you are looking at it.

Another feature, Direct Call automatically dials the number on the screen when you lift it to your ear - even mid text should typing become tiresome, while Photo Share uses facial recognition to instantly tag people who are a match for profile pictures in your contacts.

However, the iPhone 5 will have the advantage of Apple's integrated experience across devices.

iLounge said the iPhone 5 will also feature a new metal back and a smaller connecting dock that will eventually be introduced for all of Apple's new mobile devices.

The phone's casing is also likely to be made at least partially from Apple's tougher Gorilla Glass 2. The extra screen size is expected to extend the handset's length by 1cm, making it 12.5cm in total.

It could be made from a futuristic material known as Liquidmetal alloy.

Apple spent $30 million in 2010 acquiring the rights to use Liquidmetal, which is said to be stronger than titanium but as easy to process as plastic.

I could go with a larger screen with my aging eyes. However I agree
with most that a bigger overall phone is getting to the limit.
Did anyone else see the the Nano 3GS Prototype that was to be
smaller? That's an alternative too...

long story short...

Vietnam's streets are completely packed with motorbikes.. like crazy, To cross the street, youre better off closing your eyes and just walking slowly because they dont stop for you, they only go around you....

anyway, i'm standing on the interior of a big sidewalk in Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon), probably about 20 feet wide, texting my mother (of all people!).

some guy on a motorbike drives ONTO the sidewalk, swipes it out of my hand and drives away. After i chase him for about 10 seconds i think to myself "well i probably wont catch up to him, and if i do, what am i gonna do to him?" So i stop, scream FUCK, and move on to being pissed for the next 50 days that i had left of my trip...

Yup, sucks..

I think if i call AT&T and tell them this story, they may just help me out. or i could always use the "i'm switching to verizon" method..

Actually no, it wasnt unlocked. I had it through AT&T and didnt really use much of the phone part, everytime i found wifi, i would imessage my friends..

I was actually on a semester at sea, so vietnam was just a port of call for 6 days..

Please forgive me if this is a stupid question, but will I be able to update my 4s with this system when it comes out?

I just got a 4s through Verizon and I am loving every minute of it. I am waiting on delivery of a 2Point5 spec dock to add to my Dice Media Bridge. Can't wait to install that into the ashtray location in my e46.

No difference here in US in crowded places. I hear stories about iPhones pulled from peoples hands in subway stations in US, pretty much every week. One woman died last year as the iphone owner started chasing the guy and the thief pushed an old woman down the subway stairs in an attempt to escape quickly.

Crazy story, Naz, but as LeMans mentioned, that happens here too - even straight up street robberies at knife/gunpoint.

It would have been slightly funny if you were using a Verizon or Sprint CDMA iPhone (on WiFi to iMessage since CDMA is no good in Europe or Asia). Thief would've had a nice paperweight to sell. :D

Glad you survived though. The phone can easily be replaced but you could've gotten shanked.

I have been running IOS 6 on my iPhone 4S, and can get emails & Messages (SMS) on my iDrive, can read them when stationery or play them while driving, no need for cradle and no need for BMW Apps.

The problem with the iPhone 5 will be getting an Apps cradle if you have BMW Apps, it will take BMW 6 months to produce one. So I think I will stick with my iPhone 4S.

PS. If the iPhone gets any bigger it might not fit in the centre consol.

Quicksilver 07-25-2012 06:10 PM

After giving it about three minutes of thought, aside from a larger screen I really
can't see the advantage of getting one. In fact there may be some disadvantages.

#1 My Mophie won't fit

#2 Shrunken connector which means all my other stuff won't fit.

#3 Might be to big to slip into my front pocket.

#4 Will it do something my 4S won't do?

#5 If the CEO want's my 4S : Maybe i might do it (Fat chance)

Oh never mind

Have they not sold 10mil units in the last few months, also there are a few other good phones out there other than the iPhone?

I have invested alot of money in iPhone attachments, it will p..s me off if I have to throw them all out and start again. And another thing you will have to run two sets of adaptors in the house, one for all your iPod & iPad's etc and another set for your iPone 5, that's just stupid, your benches will be full of power supplies & leads.

If Apple was half smart they would leave the connector there and add an extra micro usb port.

Quicksilver 07-26-2012 04:44 PM

Sure there are many other phones that one can buy but to switch because
of a different connector wouldn't make sense. After all there will be an adaptor.
Bank on it. Your iPhone attachments are safe..

Yes, Galaxy S3 have 10 mil units sold. I can see your point that those who are holding to switch to Galaxy S3 due to their investment in Apple connectors and adapters will have the their decision made-up with the new connector. Coming from Reuters, the news about new connector has to be more than just a rumor.

Besides I am not sure iPhone 5 will have all the features Galaxy S3 has. It does have some cool features which Apple has had locked to customers.;)

That's always been the problem with the iPhone, it has features locked. They have not listened to their customers because they always believed they had the best hardware.

It's only now (IOS 6) that there catching up with other phones on the market. And again its not because of them giving what there customers want but rather the competition from other manufacturers forcing Apple to respond.

Apple would be much better off retaining the current connector and adding a micro USB beside it.

And even if Apple comes up with an adaptor for there iPhone 5 it will not sit in the iPhone 4 cradles or equipment currently everyone has, it will have no physical support structure, standing up to high, unless the adaptor covers whole base of the iPhone 5.

I can see alot of angry BMW owners having to buy whole new base eject plates & new cradles, whats that $500 - $600, plus a new Y-Cable $70, plus the new iPhone 5 = $1000, may as well stick to the iPhone 4 with IOS 6?

I think they are trying to get rid of the whole cradle thing. Y-cables are now history in new BMWs(starting most 2011 models)....you can use the same white cable you use for charging in house.

Yes, I see that, you still need the cradle for antenna range, I just bought a new Media/Apps cradle for my M50d, cost was over $425 retail here in Australia, the normal Media cradle is $355.

I run my trustie old iPod into the USB with the Y-cable.

From the days when I had the E53 I have spare Nokia & Seimens cradles, the first two E70's I had came with Nokia's as well, more cradles. My third E70 I changed to iPhone 3, another cradle, then iPhone 4 & 4S, another standard cradle.

Now with the M50d & 4S I bought the "Media" cradle, upgraded to Apps so I need the "Apps" cradle, I have shoe boxes full of cradles, will be able to open a museum soon for cradles.

Its getting to the stage that phones & cradles are throwaway's. Every year its a new phone & cradle, and double that if you have 2 BMW's.

PS. Now in Sept it will be the iPhone 5 and yet again another cradle!!!!!!!!!!!

Quicksilver 07-27-2012 03:37 AM

It was bad decision or oversight on Apple's part to start out with a big connector in 2007 for a small device in first place when every other cellphone maker had already moved to/or was moving to mini-USB or smaller connector back then.

Thunder22 08-09-2012 11:11 AM

It is not a big deal but if it makes people happy that is good.
A bigger screen and better battery life would be nice.

Jeeeshh, I wandered back in to view the IPhone/IPad fanatics thread, and I see everyone is still stirred up...

I am not anti-AAPL, (I have a few hundred shares and wish I had a few thou), and I am not anti-Apple products, or even disdainful of the KoolAid brigade... ;)

As for golf clubs, 'tech is fine/good' but I am still banging older tech clubs, esp irons and wedges. I try other people's stuff, but other than slight forgiveness on some shots, a good, repeatable swing is my winter/FL Shack goal.

Now, back to the thinness and screen size discussion. :D

i prefer cycling to golf and can't wait until I see the 2013 version of Di2 electric.

I started by getting a Mac Book instead of PC with Vista. My Mac Book worked great and now every family member has a Mac and I-Phone. They sucked me in by working well and providing good support.

Md you take great photo's with digital cameras so you are not that old tech.

brian5 08-21-2012 06:27 PM

Still not an Apple fan as such. I'm currently replacing the hard drive in my son's MacBook Pro but everything else, apart from iPhones and iPads, is running Windows 8...

Am going from two iPhones (4 and 4S) to four iPhones (4, two 4S's, 5) in next month.

These iPhone 5's are going to sell like crazy... In a way, I wish I wasn't getting a (small) corporate discount from AT&T so I could switch to Verizon.

Bigger screen is important.

I don't think battery life is a factor at all. I've spent so much on battery packs (my most recent purchase in that line was a $70 battery that works for iPhone and iPad) but I never use them! I am always near an electrical outlet or a laptop/PC to charge these devices.

Quicksilver 08-21-2012 06:31 PM

Not everyone is stirred up. I can truthfully say i'm not. I was so far behind
getting a new phone it wasn't funny so I had to do something sensible.
Getting a new larger screen iPhone so far doesn't make sense unless
the price is very very cheap.....;)

For some us that were able to get rid of BlackBerry's and have corporate email on our iPhone, a larger screen is important. I could put the corporate email on my iPad but there is no way that want to be one of those dorks that hold an iPad next to their ear to have a conversation...

E61Silver 08-21-2012 06:41 PM

The best thing about my I Phone 4S is the dual antenna that provides very clear reception it is almost as good as a land line. I will probably get the 5 so that my wife can have a updated phone (the 4S) but I am not stirred-up and will not wait on line to get it.

Quicksilver 08-21-2012 06:45 PM

Why is a larger screen important? How will that help having it next your
ear while your having a conversation?:dunno:

Thanks for the kind words, B...
And I agree: I am not low tech, though no techie in some aspects.

My computers are new/newish and powerful, I love cams, and I would give up TV before I gave up the net, etc.

I had a car phone from '82 on, a cell phone from '85 on, (the StarTrek looking box from Motorola), etc. I have a pos 4+ yr old non-smart phone that I use maybe a couple dozen times a year to make sure it works.

Not anti-smart phone and I will probably get one someday. But, I haven't worked since May 2000, and I don't need to walk around texting or watching movies, lmao!, or playing scrabble on the phone, or calling theCEO every 5 mins to tell her I am in Walmart. Just different needs...if I was still carrying the bag, flying the world, yes...but I am just a retired bum and have no woody for the 'next' smart phone.

I don't understand those prices though. For example, "Assuming your iPhone 4S is in good condition, Apple will pay you anywhere from $285 for a basic 16 GB model up to $345 for a white 64 GB phone." That seems to be a lot...

My daughter "needed" an iPhone for high school. I bought her a new iPhone 4S 16GB through AT&T and it cost $199 (obviously with 2-yr commitment). I'm expecting Apple, AT&T and others to reduce prices on the new 4S's when the iPhone 5 comes out too.

It's interesting that the iPhone 5 definitely appears to be evolutionary rather than revolutionary compared to the 4S (like going from 4 to the 4S model).

I've been waiting for the iPhone 5 for over a year now and, even though I'll buy one, I don't think that it will be that "exciting".

I actually thought that Android or Microsoft would have a competitor to strongly consider by now too but that hasn't happened...

Dannyell 09-07-2012 04:12 PM

There are pretty strong competitors actually..the S3 Galaxy would be one of them...in comparisson to the 4S that is...as far as the 5 goes...ill probably get one as well for a lil bit then off to Europe just like my 4 and 4S ;)

I sold a 3G recently and got $110 for it. There's a number of places that you can do this such as Apple, Gazelle, BuyMyTronics, RadioShack, Totem, Instant Sale @ eBay(which I used).

Don't expect your emails to work on the iDrive, ever since IOS 6 beta 4 only messages show up, seems there is a bug in the doftware.

IOS 6 GM did not fix it, the bug is still there with IOS 6 GM, so much for BMW having development input in the IOS, think they are all too busy playing Donkey Kong?

It worked with beta3, bad slip up on BMW's behalf not keeping on top of it, think they would have gottin this bug fixed. But like always they are after the fact, wonder if the BMW department involved where busy playing with there Sony 3D DS's?

There is even a bug in the BMW website when you try to download the USB update that came out last NOV 2011, here's the error, been there for a couple weeks now:-

"access /bmw_prod/_common/shared/owners/bluetooth/bin/UPD01004.bin on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request."

Proof they have taken there eye off the ball in regards to the above!

Yes, on the 4S.

According to an Apple email, received today, it will available in stores on Sept 21.

According to my pre-order receipt from AT&T "Your iPhone has been reserved and should arrive as soon as Sept 21." So it looks like I can expect mine the same day that it's available in stores... No reason to stand in lines...

Yes I did the same with Verizon and they say it will come on the 21st.

IOS 6 will be released on the 19th and this should make the 4S almost as good as a I Phone 5. That is the big plus with Apple you can update your existing device easily and keep them current. My MacBook Pro is 4 years old and still going strong.

Sure but Apple will inevitably, sooner than later, render your device obsolete when a new OS comes out that is not supported by older hardware. We just sold a Mac Pro (not a MacBook Pro) that no longer was upgradable because its Intel chipset was not supported by the newer OS versions. Same thing with the iPhone 3G not working with iOS 5.

I know that is the way it goes with Apple and people can take it or leave it but I can't agree that Apple helps users stay current with a simple OS upgrade. They don't make any money that way.

Actually, AT&T says even worse right now "14 to 21 business days" :( That's more like 3 to 4 weeks.

I still expect to receive mine on day 1 (Sep 21st). I will actually be out of the country when it's scheduled to arrive so I don't mind if it's a few days late though...

watrob 09-14-2012 10:06 PM

Just preordered mine as well. The only trouble with the iPhone 5 is you will not get video out to your idrive as its output is now digital and the idrive only accepts analog. So unless the new BMW cradle has a builtin converter you will loose this feature or you will have wait until you buy a new X5 with the new idrive that's coming out.

Quicksilver 09-15-2012 12:50 AM

Not quite accurate. Regardless of OS up-grades few devices are rendered
Obsolete. I have a non intel Mac Pro that is hardware upgradable and
Still does the job. So it really depends on the needs of the user.

There are many users of older machines running older Mac OS versions
who have kept their Machines for the specific purpose of running older OS versions.
Those machines run applications that newer machines no longer
Support. Nothing obsolete about that.

I suppose it's always dependent on the needs of a particular user. Heck, I'm sure that there are some people happily using an original iMac, translucent CRT body and all.

Our situation was absolutely a dead end. Hardware was too old to support newer OS which is turn limited us to use of an older version of Adobe Creative Suite (PShop, Illustrator, etc). Newer version of Adobe stuff required newer OS. Newer OS didn't work with older hardware. Result? What was a $3000 Mac Pro was a beautiful room decoration. We sold it on eBay and someone will get use out of it for whatever limited purpose they have.

Do I think that Apple has planned obsolescence? Absolutely. Just look at the new generation of MB Pros and Airs. They are awesome machines but try to add RAM or change a battery. No dice. So much is proprietary and even soldered in place that the user is hogtied.

Do I think that there are people who feel the need to upgrade despite not really having the need? Absolutely. This is not planned obsolescence or the fault of Apple but rather a self imposed obsolescence by those who feel they need to be on the bleeding edge.

Quicksilver 09-15-2012 02:46 AM

Guess what my MacBook looks like?

It's black. That should tell you how old my MB is. Circa 2007. Would I love a sexy new aluminum MB Pro? Heck yes but I just can't justify it because I don't use my MB for any heavy lifting.

That's what SHE said! :D

It's funny you think it's too big. I'm sure many people were hoping for a big screen to compete with Samsung but I do not like the idea of lugging around and holding to my head something akin to a mini-tablet. It looks silly and cannot be comfortable.

http://www.technobuffalo.com/wp-cont...st-640x425.jpg

I had heard that Apple's philosophy on the size of the iPhone was based on the average person's thumb span. The screen should not be wider than the thumb can reach so one handed operation was still possible. I guess since Apple didn't want to go wider, they went taller. I'll have to wait until I get "hands on" with the 5 but I do think that the iPhone 4 is a pretty ideal size.

Why wouldn't they have their stupid, overpriced dock to Lightning adapter ready and available at launch?? Weeks without music & charging in the car? I'll wait.

What's worse is that we'll have to wait even longer before reasonably priced aftermarket versions become available. $29 is outrageous.

LeMansX5 09-15-2012 02:13 PM

The lightening adapter will not work for external speakers e.g. in the car.

I'm most of you that are aware of the iPhone 5, have seen the ad by Samsung doing an (unfair) comparison of the Galaxy S III vs. iPhone 5.

I found the response by the fanboi's pretty funny :)

Another one by a fanboi. This one is a little more rational (and offers alternatives):

The Galaxy is probably a very good phone however at this point we are all Apple so it not a good option.

I had a Droid and it was a good smart phone the biggest issue was that I could not get the email on my computer to reflect changes I made on my smart phone.

E61Silver 09-18-2012 07:07 AM

I do think that the I Phone plug is just a way for Apple to sell $29 adapters.

I've ordered the $29 and $39 adapter so it's even worse than that. Luckily, I don't have many things that I connect my iPhone to.

Anyone update to iOS 6 yet?

Quicksilver 09-19-2012 08:57 PM

I did on the iPad still messing with it.

watrob 09-19-2012 09:11 PM

IOS 6 will not send emails to the Idrive, it did with Beta 3 but Beta 4 & IOS 6GM does not. Messages appear ok on the idrive.

Hopefully Apple will have a firmware upgrade shortly.

Who's got a iPhone 5 to test with there BMW to see if they get emails on their iDrive?

Quicksilver 09-20-2012 08:18 PM

One thing not being said is that if you're unsatisfied with Apple maps
just download Google maps from the Internet. Best of both worlds.

Youtube is suppose to be gone as well but just like maps I believe
That YouTube can be downloaded the same way. Both are not Apps
Just links that can be added to the home screen.

I haven't had any recognized problems on the iPad so far. IPhone
Is next.

Edit: After using The Apple Map app the verdict is. In.... "Its awful".
And I a haven't even used it for directions.

E61Silver 09-21-2012 07:11 AM

Yes the Apple Maps are not great. Will get the new I-Phone 5 today.

Would any one need a oem Y cable for iPhone?

PersonaNonGrata 09-23-2012 02:09 AM

Just in time for the introduction of the iPhone 5, my 4 is taking a major dump on me the past few days. After about 20 months, the battery is finally dying and not doing it in a progressive way. Now, it will go from 100% to under 10% in about 4 hours with no talk and minimal texting. I'm going to get a replacement battery to get me through the next couple of weeks before I can get a subsidized iPhone 5. :tsk:

Condition is mint. If I box and don't tell you that its used, you will not be able to tell. I will pack like new when I ship. Also have a black case crown cover.

Physical Teardown Finds iPhone 5 Materials Cost $199 - IHS
Last update: 9/25/2012 9:53:48 AM

By Melodie Warner

Materials in the low-end model of Apple Inc.'s (AAPL) new iPhone 5 cost $199, according to a physical teardown by market-research provider IHS Inc. (IHS).
Meanwhile, the 16-gigabyte iPhone 5 cost $207 to manufacture, the firm said.
Earlier this month, the firm's virtual teardown estimated the combined cost of the components for the iPhone 5--what is known as a bill of materials--at $197, or only $9 more than for the iPhone 4S.
The iPhone 5 is Apple's first smartphone to work on high-speed fourth-generation cellular networks, using the Long-Term Evolution, or LTE, technological standard. The consumer price of the base model iPhone 5 is the same as for the 4S.
IHS said the bill for parts in the 32-gigabyte version increased to $209.00, pushing the total manufacturing cost to $230.
"The iPhone 5 exhibits a great deal of similarity to the iPhone 4S in terms of component suppliers," said Andrew Rassweiler, senior principal analyst of teardown services for IHS. "But beyond this superficial resemblance, there are some critical changes to product design and parts that enable major upgrades that improve user experience."
These changes include a faster applications processor, larger display and a high-speed 4G LTE air interface, the firm said.
New suppliers for the iPhone 5 include SanDisk Corp. (SNDK), which contributed the NAND flash memory. The firm said this is first time that SanDisk NAND has been found in an iPhone examined by IHS. The firm's iPhone 4S teardown showed the NAND supplier was Samsung Electronics Co. (SSNHY, 005930.SE).
However, IHS said Samsung, SK Hynix Inc. (HXSCF, 000660.SE) and Toshiba Corp. (TOSYY, 6502.TO) could also serve as Apple's sources because the NAND component is a commodity part available from multiple suppliers.
Elpida Memory Inc. replaced Samsung as the supplier of the SDRAM in the iPhone 5 analyzed by IHS. But IHS said Samsung and Hynix could also be supplying this widely available memory part.

I've had mine for four days now.
The ear piece is def more clear,
reception is better. The iPhone
5 is much faster in linking
and simple processing to me.
It is a great upgrade. I got
the 64mb.

I like the iPhone 5 and glad that I did the upgrade (I gave the 4S to my son).

Unfortunately, the battery life is no better. Can't even last 12 hours. And there's no adapters available yet to connect it to one of the many battery packs that I've collected over the years. :(

what do you guys think of the battery life? I am on verizon, I turn off LTE when i don't use it and my brightness/wifi/and location services are on. I feel the battery is pretty shitty and will go to 10% in about 6-7 hours of heavy usage, maybe less.

I would say you're right, that's pretty bad battery life.

You mean 6-7 hours of heavy data usage?

Quicksilver 10-02-2012 11:29 PM

Correct, there is a difference between heavy usage and heavy data usage
Since the ios6 update battery life seems better on my 4S.
Haven't used the Mophie in almost 2 weeks.

Kewl X5 10-25-2012 02:09 PM

In my experience, Verizon iPhone 5 on LTE (I have great LTE coverage where I am) has the same or maybe slightly better battery life than previous Verizon iPhone 4S

Meiac09 11-01-2012 10:24 PM

So I've had two... Verizon has great LTE everywhere I've been except San Francisco, where I go no service, but i got more than 50 Mbps in Napa.

The damn screen popped off, and my friend who works at the Apple Store in NC said thats common. I was pissed... but more pissed when the phone ate 10GB of data downloading my iTunes library over LTE while I was on Wi-Fi and had set it not to use cell data for that. I reviewed it after it came out, but since then have been really split between loving the speed, the feel and aspect ratio, and the ... slipping quality.

It's also a pain, since whenever I need lightning cable, I have the 30 pin - and vice versa

noncom23 11-14-2012 09:32 PM

I have had mine for a few weeks now.
I like the new size. The phone works better
for me in Dallas than my i4. LTE on its
own, is just as fast as my wifi for surfing.
Overall I am glad I moved up to th i5.

PersonaNonGrata 11-15-2012 04:42 AM

I'm liking mine too. I've had it for about a week only after a bit of a wait for stock to come in and ship. The biggest difference I noticed and feel is the lighter weight. The switch from glass to aluminum was good. VZ LTE is great and being able to FaceTime over LTE is pretty cool.

I am a terrible accessory whore and spent entirely too much time looking at cases. I am a holster user which is kind of dorky but I do not like pocket carry. It amazes me how few good holster cases are out there. Most bigger name cases are kind of pricey when compared to the eBay and mall kiosk stuff but after buying a bunch of that stuff, I am really happy with my Seidio Active case with metal kickstand and holster. It does not add much bulk which was a priority for me. Why get a slim and light iPhone 5 and them encase it in a boat anchor of a case? :dunno: What are you guys using?

<<snip>>

I am an accessory whore too -- is there a support group for that? :) I ended up with over 20 (30?) cases for my old iPhone 4...

I use my iPhone 5 for work and play -- I returned my work BlackBerry. So for work, I like a holster too. Splash is one of the few that have leather ones for iPhone 5. I'm using the Alpha I (which takes naked iPhone) but they have Alpha II which accommodates a shell case. Note that the closure is not velcro, it's magnetic, which I much prefer.

For weekends, I just snap on a decent thin case. I have the incase slider.

FYI. After using it for weeks (months?), I do find the battery life is better than the iPhone 4 or 4S.
