New Years resolutions for '06

Hope everybody had a great New Year celebration. For me it was just a quiet time at home with some family members...nothing too exciting :).

Anyway here are some of my resolution for the upcoming year:

1. Get in better shape and eat right. As of now I'm physical mess with all work and no physical activity. None, nada!

2. Stop procrastinating: this has gotten me into trouble my entire life and I need to put an end to it.

3. Stop putting money into the X: for God's sake it has enough stuffs already. My X has more presents than anyone I know and it's not even asking for it :bustingup .

I think that's about it. What about you guys and gals? Let's hear your New Year resolutions.

Juanted 01-01-2006 10:30 AM

1. Quit smoking (this time for real).

2. Lose weight.

All at the same time.

Won't be fun. :(

Juan

UCrewX5 01-01-2006 11:37 AM

Great minds think alike

Now the trick is to keep the resolutions ;)

Quicksilver 01-01-2006 01:21 PM

Follow thru with the 2005 resoulutions. Or perhaps stop making resoulutions I know i will not keep.

DinanX5 01-01-2006 01:24 PM

Looks like we all (myself included!) have at least one resolution in common - lose weight! I could stand to lose about 15 lbs myself...
To that I'll also add eating right, and balancing out stress with some relaxation. (The funny thing is, the X is a source of both!! :bustingup )

vinuneuro 01-01-2006 02:09 PM

Stop procrastinating :banghead: :tsk: .

michelito 01-01-2006 02:36 PM

Stop making resolutions
Most of the time we don't keep to them anyways... just try to do everything that is required, in its own time

Juan,

I know that different methods work for different people, but if you want to give a book a try, this one helped me. It's short, it's a narrative, it doesn't preach, it doesn't try to fool you, it doesn't try to scare you. I and about 10 of my friends have all read it, and while it worked for some and not others, the people that it didn't work for, it acted as a starting point. The best thing about it is that the author tells you to smoke while you're reading it.... 'nuf said.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/140...lance&n=283155

The name of it is The Easy Way to Quit Smoking by Alan Carr. I highly recommend it. It's only $15 and it might help you. And if not, well, it was $15 spent on reading material instead of smokes :)

Good luck, I know how hard it is. I just quit 2 weeks ago and I'm in the "not sleeping phase" and it sucks big time. I'll see how I do tomorrow while I'm out at Ryan McFadden's watching ND kick some ass in the Fiesta Bowl, it's going to be tough as I like to smoke when I drink.....

Sure you're just trying to rub it in to the rest of us who are out of shape. :(

trust me... you won't envy the crap I deal with at work.. I picked up running and cycling because of the stress and needed an outlet before I rip somebody's head off and put myself on death row..

J, I hear ya bro! Triathlon is about the most demanding and difficult sport to compete in. To finish it is an accomplishment!!

ChristopherM3 01-01-2006 06:57 PM

Will try to stop eating so much fried food and start exercising & playing basketball again............used to play on a regular basis, but got too busy & now I'm so out of shape I'd probably have a heart attack if I tried to play full court........

Juan:

Glad to see smoking on that list. Here's a thought about quiting. Success depends almost wholly on the smoker’s determination and will to stop. Without this determination, no antismoking remedy will succeed. But with it, a person can quit without paying for some expensive antismoking remedy. Ninety percent of ex-smokers quit without any of such aids. As World Health magazine said: “The major element in success or failure is and will always be the smoker’s willpower. The rest is just trimming.” You have to tell your self your gonna quit and stick to it.

Aside from that you also have to have some motivation to quit. Here are a few questions some have asked themselves.

#1 If you had gone to a doctor and he told you that you would die from cancer unless you gave up smoking would you quit?

#2 What about the health problems you will have. Is that fair to make your family deal with the health issues you will have down the line because of Smoking?

30 years ago a friend and i challenged each other to quit smoking. We went cold turkey. Not losing was my motivation. About 20 years ago I tried it again for 10 seconds and decided nope don't need it.

I could go on all night but i'm encouraged that your considering it. This time make it for real.

NOC 01-02-2006 09:37 AM

I am not sure what I want to accomplish this year.........
But I do know that whatever it is I might not finish it.
The big accomplishments from last year was to finish college and get a job, well I seem to have accomplish both and another was to get an X5, also accomplished by the end of Aug.
This year I plan on getting accomplished:

1. Get a house, I do not want to pay rent to someone else for the rest of my life., and also need a garage so I can start a nice BMW collection.

2. Possibly get a CPO M3, since selling my 99 M3 I tend to miss it and wish I could get it back, but I have promissed to get an E46 one.

3. Try to not procrastinate and pay all my debts, School loans and int. rates suck...

4. Get more mods for the X5 :D

Hope you all accomplish all or at least some of your resolutions and hope '06 is a better year full of success.

Thanks for the encouragement, Barry.

I'm embarassed to admit that even after a very brief and tame scare with cancer last year, I am still smoking. When I went in for my kidney stones last year, they discovered a small "mass" off the side of my kidney. Long story short, we had the mass removed, and it turned out to be cancerous. We caught it VERY early (thank God for my kidney stones), it was completely encapsulated (in, of all things, fat), and completely removed; no further treatment was needed.

Though they don't know for certain, smoking is believed to be the main cause of renal cancer. I quit for a few months, but... well, you know the rest. So, yeah, I am motivated to quit because I don't want to die before I'm 40. So, am gonna give it another shot.

Please quit now. A dear friend of mine just got back from MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, after discovering recurrent kidney cancer. His initial cancer margins were not clean, but he allowed himself to be lulled into thinking it would be OK. Be aggressive with your treatment, monitoring, and health. My friend may leave behind a young widow, and many sad friends, before too much longer.

I could not say it more clearly than Statdoc did. Juan, you have got to get out of this habit now. You are still a young guy and what happened to you last year was your make up call Bro! When we meet at the next x5world meet in May I would love to see you smoke free

Well I really do not know what resolution I have for the new year but 2006 is going to be a big change in my life and my kid's life for sure. My wife and I are going to separate after 18years and 2 kids. I still cannot believe it.
So I guess my resolution for 2006 is to work it out the best I can for the kids.

Powder_Keg 01-03-2006 12:29 AM

1. Improve my serve in tennis.
2. Improve my swing in golf.
3. Quit buying videogames.
4. Start a new relationship.
5. Get better grades in college.

This is the first list I have ever made of new years resolutions, maybe I can accomplish some now. :dunno:

So sorry to know that Alain! Hope you & the CEO can find a way to rectify things.

Dr. Atkins saw me kick 27 pounds to the curb in the LAST 11 weeks of 2005 (preceeding X-mas weekend)..Then the Apple Jelly cake hit an it all went downhill...Resolution? Follow it FOR REAL this time...Enough is enough...First bout with angina at 31 years of age, especially when and everyone in your family has died of heart disease, and it becomes easier to live right...

Resolution 2, FIND A PLACE TO SETTLE DOWN!! The wife has given me the ultimatum...Havent spent more than 2 years in one country since leaving home, and with a 7 year old, its gets harder and harder...

Its all will power guys, I just hope we can all stick to our guns!....

I'm very sorry to hear that. You held it together for 18 years and raised 2 kids, that's saying something these days. I don't know you or your personal situation so I'll leave it at that. Best wishes.

rayxi 01-03-2006 03:57 AM

Ok, I'll stop procrastinating. Here's my list.

1) Get more organized. I've convinced myself that the root of my procrastination is the lack of organization.
2) Exersize. I won't say "exersize more" because that would imply I exerise a little, which isn't true.
3) Spend more time with my wife. (My wife is looking over my shoulder as I'm typing this :D )
4) Paint our kitchen. We had water damage last spring from the heavy rains so we did a renow. Everything is done except the paint. (see #1)
5) Build the waterfall and ponds to finish our landscaping. It's been a 5 year project.

Oh man that's tough.....I certainly hope your family stays together. Good luck Alain! But if things don't work out at least your kids are older now and can understand better. My sis-in-law and her husband divorced recently with a four-year old. It's really really rough on the kid.

Thanks to all of you for your support guys. "c'est la vie" as we say in French with its ups and downs but we have to keep moving forward. We are working out a solution where my kids will have their dad and mom within a mile or so from each other. Thanks again for your responses and looking forward to meet you guys at the next X5world meeting in DC.

Alpac I have a question for you. Is your wife french as well? the reason i ask its because mine is. She is from a little town called Auriol south of France, and was wondering the split of your marriage :dunno: . My wife seems to be really nice most of the times.. she treats me good and takes good care of me. We have been together for 5 years now. I was just wondering thats it.. good luck and happy new year.. :)

Romeo, what did you do to God for having married a French lady? :) just kidding. I actualy do know Auriol, I have been there. It is a very nice little town in south of France not far from Marseille. So your wife must have a nice southern accent when she speaks French. My wife is from Ireland, Dublin more exactly. We met in Paris long ago where she came, initialy for a short period to improve her French. We had many wonderfull years together and 2 beautiful daughters 16 and 9.
