It's not a good idea to install 2 AV programs. There is a high potential for conflicts and corruption as they both attempt to manage/secure the boot sector and data. Pick 1 and keep it updated.

I haven't used McAfee in a while. The last two time I used Symantec and Norton and they both hogged a lot more resources that I wanted to spare. Since reformatting two days ago, I haven't encountered anything malicious, but AVG has kept a low profile.
