M Performance Steering Wheel Technology

I've just read this from a local source. Sound interesting for the boyracer in you....

BMW's M Performance range already included a sporty replacement steering wheel, but the company has just released a significantly upgraded tiller.

Featuring Alcantara and carbon trim, the wheel also comes with a digital screen for the boy racers and track-day fiends.

The screen is switchable to a number of functions and can display a huge range of information in bite-size pieces. It also acts as a sort of poor man's heads-up display.

The information is broken down into categories - Efficient Dynamics, Sport and Race.

Race is obviously the most fun, with lap timers, drag race and shift lights. There's also a g-force indicator, a bit like a GT-R's, just minus the Gran Turismo graphical flair.

The F1-style shift lights, also available in Sport mode.

Efficient Dynamics is all about fuel-saving, or at least observations about your consumption - important to those who like to keep it green on the road and save it up for the track.

It also shows trip information like time as well as fluid temperatures.

The steering wheel is part of a wider M Performance range that runs from kickplates and floor mats through to factory engine upgrades.

One would have to have some pretty sharp eyes to catch the info on that digital watch sized screen while maintaining some semblance of an eye on the road. :tsk:

Saw an art that said it was a ~$1600 option  ...agree with PNG/K: an F1 driver would need a keen eye to see that stuff.
Why not link that info through the HUD?

I think I will keep my current tiller. ;)
