Calgary Floods

Hope all of our members and their families in Calgary are safe and dry, and those around Canmore and downstream of Calgary as well. Pretty incredible water levels running right now.

Our family in Calgary were evacuated 2 am Friday morning, but are all safe. Bow River overflow didn't reach their home, but came most of the way from the riverbed towards it.

Stay Strong Calgary. And as a side note, your mayor is a rock star, IMO.

First three shots are Calgary, then a stranded rescue boat after the waters receded in one Calgary neighbourhood; Canmore; High River; the Trans Canada highway; and reinforcements arriving.

Saw the horrendous flooding on the web, and even a snippet on the TV news...
Most of us in the lower 48 think of the Mississippi or Red River flooding like those pics, and pics on the net.
Unbelievable...hope you, Ray, et al, are all OK and safe.
Best Regards,

We are fortunate to be away from the affected areas and on high ground.

It's been a bit surreal driving around town these last few days. Normally busy areas on Friday and Saturday nights were eerily quiet even though it was well away from the flood zones.

I made no attempt to get a close look the flooded areas as the emergency personnel have enough to worry about without me getting in the way. On the occasions I had to cross one of the few open bridges I was shocked to see how how high the water was and how incredibly fast it was moving.

The emergency teams have done a first rate job during the crisis. AFAIK there have been no casualties in Calgary. There were 3 confirmed drownings in a small town to the South unfortunately.

It may be some time before things get back to normal here but we are being optimistic. The city has repeatedly stated that there are no plans to cancel the Calgary Stampede that's due to start in a week and a half. That's a tall order as the venue is in the flood zone not far from the area in Jeff's first photo.

Thoughts and prayers out to y'all. I've seen the images and news and do wish for a speedy recovery and rebuilding process.
