Should I do it?
I got an offer to evenly trade a 2003 E39 540i 6-speed in Sterling Gray on Black, with 103k miles for my 91 Z32 300ZX TwinTurbo with a re-fresh engine and 138K mile on the body.
The E39 was maintained by BMW of Arlington up until 100k miles. Known issues include a key scratch mark about a foot long at rear driver side door (some jealous hater), scratch marks on the bumper from garage door. The bonuses include a new sets of tire on it. FYI, there are ~1265 03 E39 540i 6-speed. It has quite a few parts from the E39 M5 bin. 2003 540i Sport 6-Speed - Bimmerfest - BMW Forums http://images.craigslist.org/00C0C_f...l5_600x450.jpg http://i300.photobucket.com/albums/n...psc5535ecb.jpg Your thought? |
I love the 540 m sport... So to me, yes, I'd do it. It's a more mature everyday car that you can drive in comparison to the Nissan
|
Thanks Naz24. Yes it will be my DD and I'll have my 525i for sale if I go ahead with the deal. The only draw back is my wife will no longer have a back up car. Oh well, I'll teach her the manual. She's good with "stick" ;) :D
|
Teach her how to drive the stick and do it!
No question IMO, 1265 made, and its not just plain silver, and look at those wheels! Ahhhh E39 M-sport manual, I don't think its even a question, you know E39s better than most man! That car needs to be your DD, sell your other E39 like you said. Your wife already drives the newest vehicle in the house so if she ever needs a "backup" she will have to row her own gears :) DO IT! |
E39 is a pinnacle in automotive designs, the last year 540 with M-package is THE bomb!!! it is the next best thing to E39 M5 without actually going overboard and mortgaging your kids!!! BMW of Arlington is nice dealership, my 4.8iS was maintained by them until i took it over... took over the car, not the dealership!!! i don't know anything about the nissans, but it is for sure not a BMW...
go for it!!! |
The guy seems VERY interested in the trade. He has 3 cars, and the Z would be a retirement gift to his father since he used to own one back in the day.
If I didn't have a better/more rare Z, I wouldn't even think about the trade. Looks like it's a "GO" now. If we were to do it, it would be either this Sunday or next, and each of us would drive half way to Charlotte, NC for the swap. It's my wife only day off and she wants to be there for moral support when I let it go. |

I think its an even trade, a well cared for/mint/somewhat rare Z car for a hugely rare, the rarest basically, of E39's. And I wholeheartedly agree, I know your Stramann Vert is the absolute pinnacle of Z car rarity, so you have that to enjoy as a garage queen, looking forward to getting pics of your new to you E39 m-sport!:thumbup::thumbup: |
It's Straman verTT, RB ;)
I like to type it like that to indicate that it's a TwinTurbo convertible :D |
:thumbdown Dude back out of the deal. citing insurance cost. LAME! especially when I have it insured under Grundy Collector Insurance for less than $500/year, with no limitation.

YES!!!
