Bimmerforums, The Ultimate BMW Forum???
What the hell happened over there?
I went on Bimmerforums today after spending 2 yrs on here. That forum has turned into a black hole of first time posters, asking "my X broke, what's wrong???". Posts that ask the OP questions to help them out, and no response for months, some years! Members with "Thug Life" Avatars. Seems the "Ultimate" title needs to be on this forum. |
what is this other forum you speak of?
But yeah, agree, Bimmerfest is about all I can tolerate. And the number of first timers on cellphone apps is really a PITA. |
Ultimately IMO it's just part of the life cycle as the models age and become 'affordable' to a wider demographic. You can see it every now and again here as well....but nothing even close to what the other Bimmer forums are like. This place truly does deserve the "ultimate" title...:)

That's why some suggest supporting the site by becoming a premier member.
It just makes a lot of sense. |
That sites become a train wreck!

I'm on there to kill some time when I'm bored. Bimmerfest is a little better but less traffic. I'm on M5Board more often now.
|
I only enjoy the E39 crowd on Bimmerfest (bluebee, cn90, etc) but BF is a joke, me and tmv are the only knowledgeable people to ever chime in occasionally on E53 section, I usually just tell them to google search their problem on Xoutpost lol!

You are sadly mistaken (but clearly a long time cheerleader for ownership and apparently a 'single person enforcement team' when someone says 'for sale'...) But back to the issue- how do you maintain forum quality across models, years and owners? I could go on for quite some time on this, having done it for over 20 years. Its pretty simple: 1. Commitment and Vision 2. Moderators 3. Communication You empower moderators with a vision of the forum 'feel' and operation. They enforce rules and communicate to members what is acceptable and what is not. They in turn help identify new members that will turn into new moderators. Moderators communicate and share, respect and support each other...continue to reassess actions and policy. Bring in fresh blood. Weed out bozos..etc, etc. It is a continuing process. once it goes stale, the quality slides. IMO |
I don't really think about the texture, personality and civility of this forum?
Perhaps I should. And you're probably right, I'm sadly mistaken about many things. And yes I am clearly a long time cheerleader for ownership and apparently a 'single person enforcement team' when someone says 'for sale' I own all of that. I'm also happy you have the opportunity to express your feelings about the texture, personality and civility of this forum. And I'm equally sure the owners of this site value your opinion regarding how to maintain forum quality across models, years and owners. One thing for sure I have no clue about what needs to be done about many things. However for the most part from what I've seen the site has taken care of itself because most of the members who have been here for a while don't need to be told what to do and how to act so the moderators seldom enforce rules and communicate to members what is acceptable and what is not. Good manners is a given along with allowing people to be themselves. The balance of the other members just want to solve their problems and sell something. For those who want to accomplish those two things there are different options open to carry that out and since some don't know the forum rules some of us take the time to point out the best way to take advantage of the available options. I hope pointing people in the right direction is the proper thing to do. Regards B&R Peace-Out Quote:

While I don't know the history of the forums, I'm relatively new and started out on Bimmerfest. I was directed here regarding a request for a skid plate and I find myself here most times. It's the most informative and helpful of all of the others. Plus it seems the crowd is more mature. I really appreciate all of you here in the short time I've been involved. I notice sometimes ppl are not so "woman" friendly (not necessarily here, but...) and I have had much help and am learning so much. I have become quite intrigued with the X and all of her complexities and there is an abundance of knowledge here. Kudos to Xoutpost!
