Upgrading to DSP in 06 x5 with Nav
I am new to the forums, but I looked at some of the installs under stereo and saw one person saying they installed the system, needing the amp and speakers, but I am looking for a full description of parts needed (cables, etc.) and how it might be installed in a x5 with nav. Not sure if anyone has done this and actually not sure if there is a big difference between non-dsp systems and dsp systems. Any information is greatly appreciated.

Personally, i think u'd be better off just
going aftermarket. u'll get better results and better sound. y do u want DSP vs. aftermarket? |
I was always one to stay factory. I recently sold my 2000 Maxima Se w/bose unit and the radio had some bass to hit... really enjoyed the stereo. Now with my x5, the stock unit has nothing. Figured the money spent would be on a factory upgrade.

I would go with aftermarket stereo upgrade. If you are in Oregon, you can contact Ken at whttp://www.avincar.comww.avincar.com. I think he has speakers that is tailored for BMW. Once you upgrade to DSP, there is not much option left. I have DSP and the only thing that I can do is to add an external subwoofer.

thank you for the info Justin, but that is across the country for me... I do have a question is there a big difference between non-dsp and dsp since you have it... what is the difference, just a rear sub and amp? Thanks for everything... a complete newbie
|
DSP adds 2 6" subs in the rear; which
most people w/ DSP replace anyway. DSP also allows for an echoing effect of the sound, again, which most DSP owners don't even use. outside of that, i'm not sure of any other differences. |
so all I need to conver to DSP is: a dsp amp, the rear sub speakers and it plugs right in...

DSP comes with 12 speakers, the ability to tweak some equalizer settings, room and echo effect. The two small rear subwoofers do not provide enough low end bass so I added a 12" JL external subwoofer powered by a JL slash amp and I am happy with the sound.
