Semi-New, need help w/ bluetooth, sirius, and ipod interface on 02 w/DSP non nav
 

I've covered layer after layer of docs on doing bluetooth, sirius, and ipod retrofit, upgrades, whatever. I can't seem to find a definate "here it is, this is what you need, do it this way, get the parts here" thread.

Here is what I want to do:

I have an 02 x5 4.4, non nav, in dash cd, dsp, no changer audio system. vehicle was put into service may of 02.

I want to install sirius, an ipod interface and bluetooth into this thing and I'd like to do it as efficiently and cheaply as possible, while keeping an OEM look and feel.

I know they make a ~$600 setup for bluetooth, but my x5 came with the phone already integrated, is there another way to do it?

I've seen the icelink setup but again isn't there another way to do that, that's more OEM looking/feeling?

Anyone that has direct experience in this that feels like they can simplify this, please email me privately.

Joe, the Icelink dock cable looks almost identical to the BMW dock cable in the OEM kit... perhaps you've only seen the black semicircle cradle? It's available both ways. We hardly install the cradle any longer since the BMW Icelink goves you text on screen, it's hardly needed by most of our customers.

Tom sells that kit with the Sirius harness and all you need is the Sirius installation kit, which I get from Vaheh at CrevierBMW.com.

If you want BMW integration through the alphanumeric displays, BMW's ULF seems the way to go. If you want something less than $600, you can get it, but it doesn't integrate much, uses its own controllers and displays if any, and you just wanted OEM appearance in your iPod controller, so I guess you don't have a choice.

BMW is the only carmaker that makes this stuff retrofittable to this degree.

BMW OEM look and feel... cheaply... efficiently... pick any two.

Yes, I've only seen the icelink's with the cradle, which I don't like at all. I saw that they are backordered on the units without the cradle. :-(

Any alternate places to buy that item, best buy is not local to me?

Also, Dealer says my X5 was built 02/2002 but it does have the built in phone, he, of course says it's not able to do any of the above mentioned things, but I'm sure we can figure otherwise.

"tom sells...." Who is tom, and what is the diff. with the sirius harness icelink than the std. one, I've not seen this anywhere? What is the cost and where would someone get that?

Also, what is the sirius installation kit that the dealer sells and what does it cost, what's entailed in that?

Lastly, the bluetooth, it appears there are a # of parts and additional things needed to add the bluetooth ulf setup. Is retrofitting a nav unit into my X5 going to fix some of that headache? Is this something people do, and is it a reasonably priced switchover?

With the addl. nav question aside, is there a specific list of parts needed to do the ULF install in an 02/02 x5 available because I'm sure I won't get help from the dealer.

Mounting bracket for the box, antenna, and maybe a wiring harness, can't remember.

Been done on this board lots of times. Confident you can find the info :) Not sure what reasonable is for you. And if you were dedicated to reasonable pricing, a Toyota 4Runner has all-wheel-drive :) You can add a Parrot for $250-450 with a plug-and-play harness... but it isn't OEM integrated like the ULF.

Search is your friend, grasshopper. There's a whole forum section just for Bluetooth now...

The BMW kit will not work with Sirius, you need the ice>Link for your case.

The OEM Sirius kit consists of the Sirius receiver, mounting bracket and antenna - we offer these as well. They are not up on the website yet, but feel free to contact me by email or PM if interested, we have them in stock as well.

so how can the sirius box and the icelink for ipod both hook inot the cd changer cable ? i have OEM sirius now and want to add ipod, but how can i , if i am already using the chancher cable in the back?

There's a BMW cable that comes with the kit that gives both a place to plug in.

the Sirius version of the ice>Link will plug directly into the slave port of the Sirius receiver allowing both devices to work together. Your factory radio will show another mode for selection (CDC/iPod).

Which is the regular icelink with a Sirius cable in the kit, right?
