Installed Basslink..now sound problems
So I recently isntalled an Infinity Basslink systems- and it works great- that is for CDs only. I own a 2001 X5 nonDSP with Business CD. I followed the isntructions on how to add a sub to stock radio on the home page of X5 world (http://www.xoutpost.com/articles/x5/s...ctory-amp.html)
When I play CDs the sound is great- No complaints..the basslink kicks really good and its not too loud for people on the sidewalk to hear but loud enough for me to enjoy. The bad news is that when I try to tune to a radio station..its very staticy. Especialy more when the bass hits. The sound coming from the speakers is real scratchie. Any suggestions?? Oh Yeah, I also used a line input converter to get RCA cables to the basslink instead of connecting speaker levle inputs. And when I diconnect the RCA cables the reception is 100%. Could this be that I need to adjust the levels in my line output converter? |
No.
Your Basslink, which I find underwhelming anyway, uses a Class D amplifier inside. Class D amplifiers are known to generate FM interference. And in an X5, your FM receiver is sitting about 12 inches below your Basslink. The only way to fix it is to lose the Basslink, I bet. Unplug the fuse for the BL (it has a fuse, right? :) and the static should clear right up. |
Liek I sadi I disconnect the RCA still leaving the power to the amp and teh noise is 100% gone. I will try and install the mox I have with the 2 10's and a pioneer amp. Maybe that will fix things up.

Is your light still on after you unplug the RCA?
WHere are the RCA coming from? The Basslink often is set up to turn on with signal - unplug signal, amp turns off. Just because the power wire is connected does NOT mean it's on. |
Yeah its still on and the FM reception is now fine. I will try and change out teh basslink for a sub/amp I have and see if that makes it better. ALthough some people knock on the basslink but when CDs are playing I think its great.
