Speaker Choice

I'm considering the BSW Stage 1 (MB Quart choice) or something a bit more powerful from MB Quart like there RVF213 line or PCE213. I'm more-so asking this question because I eventually will be adding another amp (for highs/mids or maybe even a combo to include a sub) and didn't want to have to replace the speakers again. any suggestions on speakers or will the discus line (DSF213) work out fine....???

(Im aware that too powerful of a speaker will be worse for my stock amp, so im not trying to put the best, but i do want a step up and the ability to add an aftermarket amp without other crazy speaker cost...)

ALSO, I've read about people not installing the crossover from the discus line (stage 1). Is this an option or not recommended? Any loss to not having them installed?

i know some of you have opinions out there....

from what i remember micah telling me, the higher line of
MB's require much more power than the stock amp can
push out. now, if ur going to be adding an aftermarket amp
later, then, u could go w/ the higher end MB's.

i installed the BSW Stage 1 kit and am quite satisfied w/ the
sound. i've done full installs in past vehicles, but will not be
doing that on the X; therefore, i stayed w/ the Discus line.

as for not using the crossovers, i believe that the oem amp
already crosses the frequencies; so, there is no need to use
the MB crossover.

The RVF series (MB Quart) http://www.mbquart.de/en/produkte/ca...php?nr=rvf_213 is not that much more powerful than the discus line of MB Quart http://www.mbquart.de/en/produkte/ca...php?nr=dsf_213 . Do you think or does anyone think those will be too much for the factory amp??

The Reference series, while great drivers, really need a bit more power than the stock amplifiers in the X5's can produce. If you aren't sure whether or not you want to upgrade the amplifier down the road, my recommendation would be to stick with the Discus series -- they'll sound better on the stock amp, and they also respond extremely well to an amplifier upgrade. It's a win-win! :)

Note that we will have an amplifier upgrade package priced around $470 coming out very soon!

Sorry for the delay in response. I've been out of the country for the last 17 days having a great time in Costa Rica and Panama. Beautiful countries, absolutely worth seeing if you have the time / money / inclination.

ANYWAY, still a work in progress. Best guess for timeframe is 160 days or so.

Bump on this topic again Micah, I haven't heard anything? Additionally are the Rainbow speakers similar to the MB Quart in terms of doing well with amp upgrade?

Micah D. Cranman 01-31-2008 10:30 PM

We've been focused on developing speaker upgrade solutions for the new generation vehicles over the past few months. With those nearly completed, we'll be turning our attention to these plug and play amp upgrades.

At this point I am going to stop giving timeframes since they are never accurate; we almost always underestimate our growth and the attention we have to put into business processes instead of new product development, and that means product timelines are longer than we expect.

So, it'll be ready when it's ready. Hopefully sooner rather than later! :D
