Engine Noise Thru Additional AUX Port
 

Hi there,

I recently installed the AUX port cable supplied from BMW a few weeks ago, and had a ceiling mount DVD player installed. I'm experiencing allot of engine/buzzing noise thru my speakers while accelerating. I had the technician check the location of the DVD players ground and he said where it is it seemed to be fine. He also installed a RCA filter between the AUX and the DVD player in hopes it would clear it up, but that didn't do much good. Has anyone with this setup experienced this issue and know what to do to resolve it, it's driving me crazy!! :cussing:

Do you also get the engine noise if you are using some other input to the AUX besides the DVD, such as an iPod? If so then there's a problem with the AUX and/or the radio module. If not then you have isolated it to the DVD player.

No, I thought about doing that but I don't have access to an iPod :( I do think it all points to the DVD wiring, I just don't know where though. I'm thinking of rerouting some of the wiring to see if I can tone it down some. I was just wondering if this was a common result of using the AUX cable.

I have just had a AUX lead put in mine and it is fine the only problem it is a little quite compaired to the other sources !

While in AUX mode, if you press the radio preset buttons (1 thru 6) you can adjust the input gain. 1 is the lowest and 6 is the highest.

is it the bmw dvd player or an aftermarket one?
next question, do you have the audio signal of the dvd player split to more than place? perhaps, aux input and the speaker on the monitor? if so, try disconnecting the rcas leading to one of the sources and see if it has a whine. isolate the noise. the dvd audio signal is very weak and spllitting it will almost always produce some whine.
you might want the installer to install some kind of signal amplifier.

Mine is already on preset 6 but still not as loud as other sources. it is ok unles I have been using the aux at very loud volume then you turn the radio on makes you jump lol

ground loop isolator will help with problem most of the time best i have found is made by stinger some are so bad they make the problem worse,it is also not helped by the poor output of the dvd player giveing a poor signal to noise ratio if you use a line driver caliber make a good no frills unit the sound quality/volume can be matched up

I use the Radio Shack one or you can order one at Crutchfield
