wow! i don't even have an iPod and i like that!
that just might convince me to join the iPod ranks.

Micah D. Cranman 09-22-2006 02:52 PM

Yep, it's a VERY cool piece! :)

Slick. Got one in the works for the E38?

X5Jay 09-22-2006 03:58 PM

Is the DICE kit necessary to make it compatable with the steering wheel controls?

Micah D. Cranman 09-22-2006 04:16 PM

Brian: I'm not aware of a unit in the works for an E38. However, 2point5, the makers of spec.dock, are in Atlanta and may be interested in making one for you free in exchange for your vehicle. Contact them at www.2point5.com.

Jay: This spec.dock is a dock only - it does not integrate the iPod with the vehicle, so you will need to purchase with the DICE kit. The spec.dock is only $129.95 with the DICE kit.

micah, will this work for those that did the non-smoker's
ash tray mod?

Honestly, I'm not familiar with this modification. Can you clarify or give me more information?

Just a quick question, in the first link there a pic that shows it mounted in the center console just infront of the hazard switch. Looks like its in the cup holder area. Is this another option to mount it? I had my Video ipod mounted similar to yours in the ashtray, but I didn't like the look of having the ashtray cover open all the time. So I used the traditional method of using a cradle. I really like the look of the one mounted in the center console. Let me know if thats do-able and great products!! Rob

The spec.dock for the X5 mounts directly in front of the shifter in the ash tray. Fortunately, the look is much cleaner (as you can see) with the spec.dock in place than just having the iPod sitting in the ash tray. This is the only available location for the spec.dock in the X5.

micah- here's the link to the non-smoker ashtray mod.

Micah D. Cranman 10-10-2006 05:21 PM

Yes, it will work with that mod; it will simply replace that piece instead of the OEM ashtray.
