Problem Resetting Radion Settings - Icelink
Hello there,
Im trying to install an icelink on an 2004 X3 with Business CD and have located the cables i need in the center bucket and have connected the icelink to it. I forgot to unplug the batter for the system to reset itself so I did and left the battery disconnected and even touched both cables together to discharge all the power from the system as instructed by Tom for EAS who by the way is the greates help in the world !!! very helpfull guy. So I have left my battery disconnected for over 40 minutes and went back to the vehicle and connected the battery back up to notice that the radio didnt reset still !!  the radio settings were still there and the radio still did not reset. So when I press the MODE option it doenst switch to my Icelink odviously b/c the system doesnt know that its there. I think the problem is just resetting those radion settings and maybe that will work before i decide to exchange this icelink for a new one. Does anyone know how else i can reset the system ? Thank you  |

1. Disconnect iPod from cable 2. Remove battery cables, negative first 3. Touch battery cable terminals together (away from battery) for +5 seconds, a small spark is normal as this is stored power draining from the system. 4. Allow cables to remain disconnected for about 5-7 minutes 5. Reconnect battery cables onto battery, negative last. 6. Reboot iPod by pressing on MENU and CENTER buttons for +5 seconds and then reconnecting to the DICE cable after the reboot process is completed. Let me know if these steps correct the problem. |

I have tried what you told me in the steps above with no results. I get nothing. It just doesnt see the icelink at all. And just to make sure that this icelink is working properly i tried it on my car and it worked fine so the unit is ok. So by the looks of it either i have the wrong cables which i dont think since the cables look like they are the correct ones and also the plugs fit exactly since the larger connector seems pretty unique. For some reason it even looks like its not even getting power or something Please help me out as I am honestly out of ideas now. Do i have to bring it in to the dealer maybe to get it programmed mayber ? Thank you very much |

Yeah that is what i was trying to get at, i tried this same unit on my car and it worked so it has to be something wrong with the X3 itself b/c it works on my 330

Yes i have and any of the ones i try dont work on the X3 but work on the 330, it honestly looks like for some reason its not even getting power at all. So i guess i just have to get the good old digital multimeter and check for voltage and match it to the ones from my 330 to make sure it is at least getting power.

Im sure i have the right cable since its bundled with the other cable that is needed but i i should check again regarding the brown pin

I just noticed that b/c the X3 did not come with a CD Changer the #42 fuse was missing which could be my problem. Ill have to put this fuse on and try it. Tom would you know which of the 3 wires coming from the BMW side should have 12V ? is it the red ? b/c even with the fuse on i couldnt get power on any of the 3 wires with the ignition on position 2.

I have upgraded my Firmware to the 2.B2 and am using the IPOD nano Thanks |

Or more than likely, the incorrect 12-pin harness is conencted to the radio on SA-693 vehicles. http://img222.imageshack.us/img222/6...ndissuefh0.jpg Try removing the head unit and swapping the connector to see if your audio is restored. |
Cool let me give this a try and ill post back here after im done.
Thank you very much once again Tom |

Tom , i have not removed my head unit yet but as a question if in case this X3 does have DSP by locating the #2 12 pin adapter can i just keep that second 12 pin connector connected to the head unit if that solves the no audio issue? or is it a must to purchase the DSP unit for the icelink ?
I just dont think i really have DSP on this b/c there is not DSP button on the radio like the picture below or does the button not necessarily mean i have it or not ? Thanks |

Try swapping the 12-pin connector first rather than ordering a DSP adapter you possibly don't need. |
Ok Tom, I finaly found what the problem was. This X3 had the CD changer connector unplugged from the back of the radio so that had to get plugged in and now its working perfectly.
Thanks for all your help Tom |
